Guest guest
Hi everyone! I've been reading your posts for a few weeks and want to thank you for all of the helpful information. My son, Braden, was born with profound hearing loss and received cochlear implants at 6 months old to help him hear. After numerous complications and 8 surgeries (including 3 to correct exotropia of the eyes), he seems to be hearing and seeing well. Unfortunately, his expressive speech is extremely delayed and does not appear to be progressing. Receptively, Braden knows > 200 words yet is not babbling consonant vowel combinations. We have seen numerous speech and apraxia specialists and still have no answers. They suspect apraxia but refuse to diagnose him so early. Braden also has hypotonia, vestibular dysfunction, and sensory integration issues. He is extremely social, so I don't have too many fears that he is on the autistic spectrum. After reading your posts on omega 3 supplements, we started him on NN369 last week (1 each morning with breakfast). We have yet to witness any improvement, but instead have observed a decline in vocalliztions and extreme restlessness (skipping his 2 hour naps every day). Please let me know if you have suggestions for the sleep problems or if it's possible that a decline in speech may occur before the omegas kick in. I had ordered Speak supplements but never gave these to Braden for fear of the complications some of you had experienced. Vitamin E deficiency is another concern I have, but I'm concerned that giving E supplements might cause seizures. We also want to do metabolic testing and are still looking for a competent doctor in Dallas to help us do the tests without having to wait 5-6 months to see a developmental pediatrician. Thanks so much for your support and guidance! I'm feeling pretty down these days, so your suggestions are much appreciated. , Mom to 20 month old Braden
