How do I say this the right way via email?? I guess I just want to say to

never assume.

The *majority* of the kids with Apraxia will usually have Sensory Processing

problems as well.

One highly recommended book to read that might help understanding SPD (it's

no longer called SID as to not be confused with SIDS- Sudden Infant Death

Syndrome)-- is a book called

" The out of Sync Child "

rattled paper around him (newspaper) ... I just happened to remember that the

other day. But I don't know what to watch for .... but i am assuming he

doesn't have it really.

I've seen this phrase a lot lately, and it makes me wonder how many apraxic

children also have SID. My son is dx'ed with both, although the SID is

probably a mild case. Those who don't know him would assume he's quirky, unless

they either see him headbanging (usually against my wrist, elbow, or knee), or

if he's having a really off day. How many other children on the board have

both?

(Sorry if this has come up - I can't get under 5000+ posts searching " SID "

or " sensory " ).

My Apraxic son has SPD (Sensory processing Disorder/Dysfunction) which is

SID with a new name.

He also has Hypotonia.

My older son who has MAJOR issues with SPD doesn't have Apraxia of Speech--

but I believe he's fighting the same " Dyspraxic Demon " just through different

manifestations, as he tends to be more appropriately along the Asperger's

child.

They're all basically on that " spectrum " and many of these thing overlap, so

that's why you'll tend to see these kids haven't similar things

This is a great thread. There are a lot of fine lines and overlaps. My DS has

apraxia, mild hypotonia and as yet undiagnosed SID (he's 22 months). He's also

diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Our speech therapist truly believes that he

doesn't have autism at all, but apraxia with severe sensory issues. I guess

only time will tell, but sensory is definitely something he struggles with

everyday. I call him my little $6 Million Dollar man because his hearing and

vision are nothing short of bionic.

Becky, I have to admit, as soon as I typed the word " assume " I knew I shouldn't!

Thanks for the book recommendation ... I did google the sensory integration

disorder but it still doesn't seem to ring a bell ...but so many of the parents

are saying their kids do have it. I definitely want to dig a little deeper.

Thanks again!

The book after the out of syn child is the out of sync child has fun.  It is

basically a guide for parents, i.e. activites, for the chld to do at home.
