Guest guest
Hello All, Adam is starting to take an interest in going to temple on Friday nights at my temple with me. We are starting to study for Adam's bar mitzvah. It starts with the first prayer for that is said before the reading of the Torah. I don't have the details or a date yet. He is just now starting to learn one of the prayers that is said before reading the torah, there are three, and maybe also some torah stories or readings. We are going very slowly at his own pace and will see if he can read one first phonically in english. The rabbi asked him if he had any questions to ask them. He made some observations that in hebrew you read the ords left to right, where were the vowels? He told the Rabbi that english is backwords and upsidedown. I couldn't stop laughing, how do you read the hebrew words to english? What does the prayers mean in english? The Rabbi is a very understanding guy saying that Adam will go to what he feels comfortable and there is no right or wrong on the amount of stuff he wants to read or say. If you don't feel comfortable knowing the tune you can also say it instead. Adam is also going to a new school in Sept that is more academic but has also has the help he needs to help him get closer to his grade level. It is a much different program than what he is used to ie more homework. He isn't very good in writing sentences to a small paragraph or knows his times tables that well. So it will be a challenge for all of us over the summer. I work with him every day. Jeanne
