Guest guest
I have to jump in here and express concerns over using the TLP without some sort of guidance from a therapist. Josh did the TLP with an OT overseeing everything several years ago for 16 weeks - we did it once and " it stuck " just fine. Contrary to what is written below, we were advised that the " standard " is 30 minutes a session, twice daily a.m. and p.m. There are a lot of concerns about not doing TLP while watching TV, no computer use while in a session, and many other things that need to be considered - things that a therapist can advise you on and provide appropriate guidance. It's great to do sessions while doing other fine or gross motor activities - also things the therapist can guide you with. Also, it's more than just " getting cranky " - your child's brain is being retrained by manipulated and modulated music. The modulations in the music affect different areas of the brain that, hopefully, a trained therapist understands. There is a sequence of the CDs that can be devised for your child's specific needs, in a progression that will fully benefit your child. This is not a " no brainer, " this is your child's brain and neurological processes that are going to be affected. At one point, we ran into serious behavior issues with Josh that arose after only one and a half days of listening to one of the CDs (he was sobbing, he got up from a night's sleep and peed on the bedroom floor, etc. etc.) - a call to the therapist with recommendations and help, and a change of CD to one more calming, and Josh was back to (the new) normal within another day and a half. I write this not only to show that guidance is strongly recommended, but also to show you how quickly the manipulated music can affect your child. I don't mean to criticize other people's handling of their child's therapies but I really needed to express my concerns over what I feel is more than serious business where my child is concerned. Buying TLP over eBay is one thing, administering it without professional guidance is quite another. JMO. Sherry and Josh becksmcf <Becky.Mcfarland@...> wrote: Thanks, Janice. Guest guest
Sherry, I think that you did a different program..... I believe that you did Listening Therapy (am I correct?) and we are speaking of The Listening Program by Advanced Brain Technologies. There are definately different programs out there and some really do need to be under the guidance of a professional.... particularly when doing Tomatis, Berrard, LIFT etc. The Listening Program by Advanced Brain Technologies is specifically designed to be a home program. Since I was under the care of one of the Developers of the program, I feel pretty confident that you are okay to do this one on your own. I took mine away to Canada... no chance of an emergency intervention should something go awry! It is always advisable to have professional care but all to often our children are denied ANY care for lack of the ability to obtain or pay for certain therapies. This need not be the case here. Again, since I was under the care of one of the developers of the program, I believe that using it for a year and a half was right on target and my son is now permanently healed of this affliction. If you look in the guide, it indicates that the program should be used repetitively.... I cannot remember how long it specifies but I do remember calculating that it was close to a year of use..... We need to make sure that we are all speaking of the same program. Are we?
