Guest guest
Iveta- In my personal experience, the private SLPs are better than the ones in the Centers. I could go into WHY I feel this way-- but it's not important. I just always encourage people to seek out the private therapists because there's a better control over things that way, I think, and also because the sessions are usually longer. We've found that the 1/2 hr sessions with my oldest Apraxic/Dyspraxic is NOT enough, while with the younger one who's not even 3 yet, the 1/2 hr sessions are more than enough. But it depends on the child either way. I have a few names you can try-- hopefully this will help. There are quite a few, it seems, in the Teaneck, Area in Bergen Cty. I believe there's a place called " Good Talking People " which I don't have the phone number for, but here's the website link for more info: _Good Talking People, LLC - Welcome_ (http://www.goodtalkingpeople.com/) I don't have personal experience with them, but I *hear* they're a good place. A warning-- most places might have a large wait list if they're a Center for Child Development and if they accept most major insurances. A personal SLP that is in Ringwood, NJ (which we're actually close to, but for you if you're Bergen Cty, this is WELL WORTH THE DRIVE TIME) Her name is Meredith Bazzar and her place is called MSB Therapy and her number is (973) 306-9818 or email is _meredith@..._ (mailto:meredith@...) or her website is: _MSB Therapy_ (http://msbtherapy.com/) She's EXCELLENT with the PROMPT and Oral Motor issues, as well as well studied with Apraxia, and she does great work with the kids. Please tell her that " Becky N (Asa's mom) " referred you to her if you go. Meredith does IN-office visits as well as HIPPOTHERAPY Speech at Starlight Farms in Ringwood. Their website is: _Starlight Farms, Inc._ (http://www.starlightfarms.org/) They come HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as well. Excellent Hippotherapy (both Speech and PT available usually) and Therapeutic Riding Another Local person is Janet Krebs _Home_ (http://www.speechspecialties.com/) That's her website with phone # and contact info. She's in Ridgewood NJ at the Communication and Therapy Center. She's also supposed to be quite good, but I have no personal experience with her as an SLP to my boys-- but might be using her shortly in addition to Meredith, if she takes our insurance hopefully. Hope this helps a little Becky In a message dated 3/30/2009 8:38:26 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, lucy2max@... writes: PROMPT, oral motor...and other. We are in northern NJ and just going over options if anyone can recommend someone. Is it important that they work IN the mouth as well? We are very new at this- so this would be our first therapist- so I don't know what makes a good one or bad one! are centers ok? these places cost half as much as private (sometimes!) yet have a wait list I was thinking of putting us on? any experiences with this? what kinds of questions do I want to ask the therapist? thank you- Iveta **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store?
