Guest guest
I am not sure if their product names have changed. We just strated using FO in January. I have been giving my son, Nordic Naturals Complete Omega 3, 6,9. Also, I didn't realize they had a junior's verison of the 3,6,9. Our health food store does not carry it. I have been giving him the regular 3,6,9. Hopefully, that is okay. > > Hi everyone, > I just want to thank this group for the exceptional information > provided on an almost daily basis. > > I have always seen improvements with my 4 yr old ASD son when > beginning fish oil. Guest guest
in the stores you can find the commercial line of Nordic Naturals -stores are not allowed to carry the professional line. You have to purchase the professional line from either health care professionals or online. Some sites only sell the commercial line and some only sell the professional line. They are both the same formula -the only difference is cost (the pro line is a bit cheaper) Also when you check dosage there may be a difference because the bottles either state " per one capsule " or " per two capsules " so check there. Outside of that Nordic Naturals now chooses to follow a dosage chart from another country which is more accurate in measurement -but it's not what anyone else uses here in the US (so it's the same as before -just different form of measurement) If you need any information about seizures let me know as there are many members here who have seizure prone children on omega 3/6 formulas which you can share with your child's MD. There appears to be many myths around this subject which is sad since as you note the EFAs help. Here's an archive about the 2 lines. The Pro line is discontinued from 'that' company's line for some reason. The professional (Pro) line of Nordic Naturals is still alive and kicking. You can still purchase ProEFA, ProEPA (links to Nordic Naturals and other places to purchase EFAs) http://www.cherab.org/information/dietaryeffects/efabasics.html And with the Professional line you can also buy direct from health care professionals. The professional line is not allowed to be sold in stores. Stores can only carry the commercial line. As far as I know the only difference is price still between the two. The professional line used to be much cheaper which is why most of us used it (the direct quote to the owner is " not for nothing but we're all willing to pay the extra 2 bucks for the extra 30 capsules! " for those of you who remember) -but now it's 6 bucks more for 30 capsules. The ProEFA right now is retail at 24.95 for 90 capsules or .27 a capsule and the commercial line Omega 3 6 9 is 18.95 for 60 capsules or .31 cents a capsule. Now that the costs are around the same -it just depends what's convenient. Even with where you buy them that will be around the same because you can buy Nordic Naturals at a discount of 'up' to 15% off per bottle, but no more 15% off is allowed by Nordic for anyone. And as far as the names if that's the confusion. The names are saying what's in the bottle -but Nordic Naturals doesn't own a trademark on " EPA " or " DHA " or " EFA " EPA stands for eicosapentaenoic acid, and DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid and both of them are Omega 3 fatty acids which both fall under the name of EFA which stands for essential fatty acids. It may be confusing but when it comes to EFAs it is what it is when it comes to how Nordic Naturals named their lines. And because you can't trademark something that is a name of what it actually is -be aware that there are other " proefa " products out there made by companies other than Nordic Naturals like this one. Not at all the right formula -but the same name http://www.dynamicfitness.com/detail.aspx?ID=892 As I always say -Nordic Naturals makes some great products but they must have used my brother as a consultant when they named their fish oils. (My brother named his pet snake Snakey and his pet fish -but thankfully my niece and nephew are named Alyssa and -phew!) ~~~~~~~~~~~end of archive > > Hi everyone, > I just want to thank this group for the exceptional information > provided on an almost daily basis. > > I have always seen improvements with my 4 yr old ASD son when > beginning fish oil. Guest guest
I think the pricing is now comparable between the Pro line and the retail line. We have bought the retail line from www.omega- direct.com by the case in the past because we use a lot of fish oil here. My suggestion is to compare the per capsule price because Nordic Naturals also sells the Pro line and the retail line in different size bottles. Her is my analysis from our one source: These are all per capsule prices of Complete Omega 3-6-9, the retail brand: bottle of 120 = .2404 (this is 15% off) bottle of 180 = .2247 (this is 15% off) case of 12 bottles of the 120 = .2334 case of 12 bottles of the 180 = .2198 Free shipping over $100. ProEFA bottle of 90 retails for $24.95, so 15% off that would be $21.21, or .2356 per capsule, which is right in the middle of the prices. The cheapest is the case of 12 x 180, but that's 2,160 capsules Now, if you are one of the big dose people, you might fly through that, but here that lasts about 8 months! (We used to be at a higher dose, but now the case no longer makes sense -- except that I give it out all the time to friends/relatives as gifts/encouragement to give it a try.) The bottle of 180 is only 1/2 cent per capsule more, and you can get that price is lots of places. We met the Nordic Naturals guys at the DAN conference, and they said you can get the 15% off at their own website. Plus, they have the complete line, so you can get the retail or pro lines there, including some ProEFA Xtra that is hard to find. (Not plugging it, just heard of it.) in NJ > > > > Hi everyone, > > I just want to thank this group for the exceptional information > > provided on an almost daily basis. > > > > I have always seen improvements with my 4 yr old ASD son when > > beginning fish oil. Guest guest
I bought my first bottle of fish oil to try this from Whole Foods a few weeks ago -they had a special on Omega 369. We did notice the other day he's been making noises like letter sounds when he plays like 'da da da' or 'ta ta ta'. He wasn't doing that before and I don't know if that is from the fish oil or therapy but either way it's something more than quiet! Not ready to buy a case yet but I just found three bottles of ProEFA with free shipping from this site. http://www.shop-in-service.com/proefa.htm Has anyone switched from the 369 to the ProEFA?
