Guest guest
Hello All, Our son is 4 and we are told he is apraxic. He has no other symptoms except the classic ones such as not being able to finish a sentence even thought we know the words are in his head. He didn't start talking until very late. He was 3 and a few months before we got any words at all. ST and lots of fish oil has gotten us this far but we are still not sure that he has oral Apraxia. he had a huge fall when he was 9 months old. He ran full force into the coffee table. He knocked out a couple of very new little baby teeth and broke his nose to the degree that his voice, his cries, I should say, sounded different. Anyway, doc said not to worry, that I had to get used to being the mom of a boy this time. We've switched docs now. What tests should we ask for to determine if it is truly apraxia or aphasia? Is there a treatment difference or would both be treated the same way? Our doc is young and nice but I think we will have to tell him what we want to test and not the other way around. Any wisdom? We would be most grateful. We were supposed to have his 2nd IEP meeting in DEC and they are just now getting to us so I really want to be prepared with whatever med backup I can muster. I am so grateful for the chance to learn from this group and for the courage this time to do more than the usual lurking! M
