Guest guest
I'd take my child to a private occupational therapy evaluation with an therapist or therapy center that is respected in your area. I'd also take my child back to the neurodevelopmental pediatrician to get a letter from him or her as well to state why my child needs occupational therapy. How would a prompt therapist be able to determine your child's occupational therapy needs?! That sounds highly inappropriate to me and an easy fight for you. You probably aren't all sarcastic like me but off the top I would probably have rolled my eyes and said " so your SLP is now an OT... is the gym teacher here the school nurse too? " =====
Guest guest
Dear , So you think if I took her to a private evalution center and this center is having a contract with the school, or dealing with the school, as you know the district deals with the top of centers, my daughter is in PTN center, PETERATCI THERAPY NETWORK, this center can write her needs FAIRLY, OR they know that the school is big contract for them, also I had tried to go before in a private center, but THE result doesnt say she has an apraxia, because the owner of the center said he cant lose the school as a customer, and also me as another customer.???? I cant stop my tears because I cant help her, Iam in LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA. Guest guest
ok, this sounds good, but they asks the prompt therapist because they told if she has bad or sensitive isuess through someone touching her face to teach her a new letter. as they depend on this as a sensory issue Caroline ________________________________ From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 3:16:12 PM Subject: Re: Fw: [ ] deny for services I'd take my child to a private occupational therapy evaluation with an therapist or therapy center that is respected in your area. Guest guest
Caroline, I know we already spoke today about all of this but I have new info to share with you as promised from Jill who runs the Apraxia_Dyspraxia_CA group: For you to help find an advocate in your area (click on advocates under legal on left) http://www.tacanow.org/resources/default.htm Here's info on Jill's group which I suggest you join as well! Apraxia_Dyspraxia_CA is a California-based internet support group for parents of children with Apraxia or Dyspraxia who live in California. Due to the limited local resources on this disorder, a parent (and child) can feel isolated. By banding together to share what we have each learned, we hope to end that isolation. We will cover all types of Apraxia including verbal, oral, limb, motor, and global (a.k.a. DCD, Developmental Coordination Disorder). Our group also includes the related soft signs such as Hypotonia and Sensory Integration Dysfunction and other disorders such as Dystharia that may co-exist with Apraxia. We will share local resources and therapies that we have discovered, as well as giving our personal doctor and therapist recommendations. Come join us as we discuss all the alternatives, such as the variety of therapy options as well as supplements. We are constantly building our list of resources in our Links section of our site. Come share your experiences and learn from ours. We will get through this maze together. Welcome! Guest guest
Hi Caroline! I'm glad to see you are getting help from many people. Also glad that you are now part of Jill's California group as well. I went back to http://www.tacanow.org/resources/default.htm and clicked on " Legal Advocates Special Education " which is on the left about halfway down the page. I'll cut and paste them for you -but there were a number of links too and not sure if it's confusing for you reading this list here. You'll know which are close to you. May want to try again from a different computer? Also as I discussed with you I would seek a different SLP and file a complaint about the statement from the woman from the center who is paid by your district to provide speech therapy that she told you that she " didn't want to upset the school " In my opinion I would never want my child to receive therapy from an SLP who advises the school that your child doesn't need OT -especially in light of what the woman from the center told you. It's clear they care more about not pissing off the school then what is most appropriate for your preschool apraxic child -and to me that's nothing short of disgusting. Add to that your child's history of sensory integration dysfunction and the number of years your child had tubes in her ears and I'm sure any advocate on this list will be able to jump on this to help. Shame on your school, the prompt SLP (you should report her to Deb Hayden) and this center -all of them!: Legal - Advocates - (Special Education) Lori Waldinger, M.A. (818) 957-0332 Cromer (760) 632-1748 708 Summersong Lane Encinitas CA Amy Langerman, J.D.
