Guest guest Posted February 20, 2009 Report Share Posted February 20, 2009 February 20, 2009 Dear Colleague, Educator, Family Member or Interested Party: The Asperger's Related Services Department of West Bergen Mental Healthcare will be accepting applications for its summer day camp, CAMP SOAR and accompanying Counselor In Training (CIT) program for individuals with Asperger's or related disorders starting the week of February 23rd. Please see the attached flyer. For applications, please contact Doyle (kdoyle@...). We are also hosting an information meeting on the Camp and the CIT program on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at our Ramsey site. For those interested in CAMP SOAR, we will meet from 7 - 7:30 p.m. and for those interested in the CIT program we will be meeting from 7:30 - 8:00 p.m. We ask that you register for this meeting with Doyle so that we have ample seating available (201-934-1160 x 7231). We are also pleased to announce the return of our Coping for Siblings Workshop, a program to assist brothers and sisters of individuals on the spectrum to better understand their sibling. This present workshop is for siblings 9 to 11 years of age. Other age groups will be offered in the future. Please see attached flyer. There are three remaining workshops in the Winter/Spring 2009 Workshops Series for parents, family members, professionals and interested parties. Please see the attached flyer for topics, dates and times. Clinical Director, Asperger's Related Services West Bergen's Asperger's Related Services A Summer Day Camp for 6 - 15 year olds with Asperger's or related social challenges filled with: Social Skills, Outdoor Fun, Arts & Crafts, & Relationships Program Options: 6 Week Program (30 days): July 6th - August 14th Tuition: $3,800 3 Week Programs (15 days each): July 6th - July 24th Tuition: $2,000 July 27th - August 14th Tuition: $2,000 Camp Hours: 9 a.m. - 3.pm. Families must provide transportation to and from camp. There is a $200 application fee for the Counselor In Training (CIT) Program. There is no tuition if applicant is accepted as a CIT. CIT's must be available to participate for the full 30 days of the program as well as training sessions prior to start of camp. A $500 deposit is required at time of application for all campers. Applications must be completed in full and returned with all requested records. An interview may also be required. The application, record review and interview assist in predicting whether this camp is a good fit for your child. Deposit to be returned in full should applicant not be accepted or the minimal registration for camp program not be reached (see below). Please note there is a minimum number of campers that must be registered in order for the camp to run. Given that this program was developed based on the expressed interests of families like yours with children on the high end of the spectrum, we anticipate meeting that minimum number. In the unlikely event that we do not meet the threshold full camp tuition refunds will be issued. There is a maximum number of campers that can be accommodated. Early application is recommended. For schools or agencies guaranteeing payments, a contract, confirmation letter, purchase order and any additional documents required by sending entity must accompany application and full deposit. Evaluation and Treatment of Adults with Asperger's and Similar Disorders This workshop focuses on assessing the adult with Asperger's Syndrome and optimizing psychosocial interventions to address the varied additional needs of this population, their family members, and those that play a significant role in their development and welfare. An understanding of specific techniques and tools, as well as the importance of considering the impact of the increased social complexity and social demands in adulthood will be presented.
