Guest guest
The one day a week speech therapist we were seeing last year went on maternity leave this year. Another " speech therapist " filled in and all she would say to my son was " use your words " . She understood no sign language at all and really did not interact with my son. With the situation we were in, I guess I was glad to just have any speech therapist. (desperate) Things started seeming really wrong and so I did some checking and as it turns out, she was only student; the quirky thing is there was no speech therapist in the state that she was working under the instruction of. We are not going any more because I felt like I was wasting my time and seeing no progress; I was doing better for him at home. We have the option of returning and the speech therapist has mysteriously come back right when we left (and I took my two children away from there). She said they did not want to lose any business, but I feel like we have been deceived for four months (not to mention this was illegal) and we have wasted so much time~haven't we? Not to mention, we have been ging ce a week since October and we ere promised to be put on a home plan, but never was (obviously because o speech therapist was around. I feel like my son just went to play with toys and in a ball pit, which he can do at Mc's.)
Guest guest
I would not waste my time unless the therapist is very familiar with apraxia, kaufman method, prompt, ect. -------------- Original message from " " <agirlnamedsuess@...>: -------------- The one day a week speech therapist we were seeing last year went on maternity leave this year. Guest guest
This would bother me incredibly!!! We have my younger son's ST going out on Mat. leave in May-- but he's being switched over to another SLP in the Center. (she's actually Asa's ST, so we already know her which is good) bek In a message dated 4/18/2009 12:19:38 P.M. The OTsaid she was the replacement for the speech therapist until she came back. they even BILLED under the old ST name! Guest guest
Basically, this place is owned by one person (the OT) and she employs one ST. (and several students, apparently) But the state board told me that an ST student can only work under the direction of an ST, not an OT. Point being, I never knew she was a student until I left. I called my child's PCP office and they found out her (the non-ST) name and the OT told her she was a student! Unbelievable! Then I looked her name up on the licensing board and nothing. Not even an aide. Then I called one of my child's insurance companies (she was seeing two of my kids) and on that particular child (and I am sure both childen),the claims were made for speech under the ST's name who was on Maternity leave. She was never in the building and she was never even in the state. She lives in another state and commutes. We were so deceived, but I suspected all along something was up because I kept telling my children she did not seem like a ST. Finally, I just got time to check on it. We wasted at least $20-$25 gas each trip we took and who knows, his condition my have been made worse with her in the picture for 4 MONTHS. I am more than sad, I am angry. (Sorry for any typos..I type too fast for the keyboard.) > > This would bother me incredibly!!! > > We have my younger son's ST going out on Mat. leave in May-- but he's > being switched over to another SLP in the Center.
