Guest guest
I have a two-year-old who is not speaking like he should and we just realized that some of his language behaviors and syntax errors are mimicking those of his older brother, whom he looks up to. How do we fix this? Does or did anyone else have this problem with sibling of your child who has apraxia? I am in the process of trying to get early intervention for the two-year-old so that the speech can try to get corrected before it gets much worse. I do not believe he has apraxia also, but I just think he is mimicking his brother's speech.
Guest guest
Hi , My children are now 7 and 9. My nine year old has apraxia and the seven year does not. The younger sibling mimicked his sister too. She (Shyann with apraxia) called him " Seh " for Seth - he in return called her " Seh " when he wanted her attention. This is the only remainder of those days. He began talking clear at three, a little late for most children, but he used her language so much! The good news is your two year old will begin talking normal, and YES speech therapy will help. The really good news is your two year old may be the apraxic child's best interpreter. Even today I have to ask the younger sibling " What did she say? " He ALWAYS understands her! It may worry you now, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised in the future. If you go to " The Talking Page " www.debtsmart/talkingpage.net you can see who has apraxia and his little brother who is his " speech coach " . When Seth was about five he began to be Shyann's speech coach too. It is a wonderful experience to have and I hope you will experience this treasure too! Hugs to you and your children, Joy [ ] Younger child mimicking older apraxic child's speech....
