Guest guest
I personally don't feel that a large head has any connection to Apraxia. My kids are all on the smaller side, so Asa's head circ is actually SMALLER than the average child. When one Neuro mentioned it-- he linked it to brain damage issues, and that's why they would keep an eye on it-- however-- it wasn't a problem at all, but simply a growth time where his head didn't grow at a rate that their charts said they " should " . We have to be really careful with these charts, because every child is different, so to measure them up to the charts isn't always a good idea. I think that if his head has been growing at a normal rate of speed all along, and that if it's in line with HIS pattern of growth-- there shouldn't be anything to be concerned about. In regards to the tremors-- My son has those as well. We notice it the most with his fine motor skills, and it's a sporadic thing. sometimes it's there, sometimes not-- sometimes it's worse than other times, etc. It's the " nature of the beast " with Apraxia. My son has GLOBAL Apraxia, however-- so your son might also have that as well and it's worth keeping an eye on and looking into the other soft signs of Global Apraxia. (the two are 90% co-morbid from what I understand) The MRI WON'T show anything to do with Apraxia-- it's not something that shows up in tests like that at all unfortunately. The MRI would shot any problems with a stroke or tumor, or things like that, but there would be other symptoms along with the tremors that would give more cause to do a large test such as an MRI. I would use caution with a young child and MRI since almost all of them have to be sedated, and for Apraxics, it's not a wise idea to use the sedation if avoidable. See if there are any OTHER additional issues that would warrant the MRI and take it from there Becky
Guest guest
The standard for Apraxics?? Is that what your neuro said? That surprises me greatly, because any of the experts who know much of anything about Apraxia, is that it's NOT going to show up on something like the MRI or CT scans, so unless there are *OTHER* larger issues, most should not recommend this. The results of my son's MRI was " within normal range " . Be prepared to learn nothing too! **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. Guest guest
No radiation involved in MRI. CT scans yes, but no MRI. Check with a radiologist, but believe me, I am an expert already. I can't count how many my son has had. The doctor says he is off the charts for his age group (note, my husband's side of the family have large heads). Also, my son has a minor intention tremor in his hands which I never noticed until his SLP made me aware of it. Does anyone else have a similar situation? Is there a link between head circumference and apraxia? The doctor wants to conduct an MRI, but I'm not sure what to do...I don't want to put him through this at such a young age. Has anyone else had MRI's? > > Suz > >
