Guest guest
I live in Columbus, OH and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a support group for apraxia/speech-related challenges in this area (or if you live in this area and are interested in starting one). I found a link on Speechville for a group, but the link wasn't active anymore. Thanks, Jen
Guest guest
Hi Jen, There are two parent support groups in Cincinnati. One at Children's hospital and the other one at St. Rita's school for the deaf that has a LOFT (language opportunities for toddlers) that starts at 6 weeks through 5 years old. Its a mix of typical kids, deaf, hard of hearing and apraxic kids. ITs a total communication environment. THen starting at Kindergarten, there's a separate program called " Sign n Say " that is only for apraxic kids and it goes up to 5th grade. Every child there has apraxia and it is an awesome program. THe parent group at St. Rita's is open to all parents whose child has apraxia, not just those who attend St. Rita. In addition, there is an apraxia clinic at Children's hospital here. Dr. Amy Neumeyer, who ran the clinic, left this summer to go up to Columbus. Rumor had it that she was starting up an apraxia clinic there, but I don't know for sure. There was a parent from Dayton who started up a parent support and play group, if I find her info, I'll post that later. Hope that helps.
