Vitamin E--still struggling to understand

My son was doing great on high E but I have backed it doen due to

recent concerns here. I am struggling to understand, though, how to

convert or understand IU vs mg.

FOr instance, one of the E supplements I have says 400 IU of d alpha

and 440 mg gamma.

SO does that mean that dose would be 880 IU?

HE is 7 and weighs over 50 pounds but I worry that is still too much.
