Guest guest
Please, please stop pushing your viewpoints on the rest of us! My 7yr old daughter had four surgeries in her very short life. I also have an older son and a younger one. My oldest would be able to fight off the flu, at home, in bed in a week or so because I think his immune system is clearly stronger. My 3 yr old I'm not so sure about- so he will probably get a flu shot this winter because he just started preschool and that place is what I have clearly called Germ Central. IF my hydrocephalic, apraxic, CP daughter were to catch the flu- she would most likely end up in the hospital for that week or two and I and she would be very, very miserable the whole time. She has been getting flu shots every year because every doctor and even the RN's on this site have stated that children with underlying conditions, elderly and babies should have a flu shot. She even had one during the shortage a couple years ago since the pediatrician saved them specifically for children like her who don't have the immune system to fight off the flu like typical children do. Now the story I hate and dread to have to pass along. But maybe you'll understand my point. Last winter we went to a cub scout outing at at karate studio for a new scout. His dad ran the karate studio and he invited us all there to show us his skills and show the scouts what skills they could acquire. His 7yr old son jumped up at one point because he thought his dad had called him up. He told him- sit down- I wasn't talking to you. Cute, cute little kid with the biggest smile who was hoping he could show off his skills to his new room FULL of friends. I had never met him before that night, but the way he jumped up made the biggest impression on me. That was a Friday night. Four days later, on Tuesday that 7yr old boy went into the hospital because he had a severe asthma attack. It was the middle of winter. If you don't know what February is like in NY-- its nasty, bitter cold and snow. He was their only child. He passed away that Sunday. Only four days later! He was their only child. There were many, many rumors around my little town in upstate NY that IF that little boy with an underlying condition had had a flu shot, which we know he didn't, he may have been better prepared to fight. Now a year later, I got another flyer from the dad since he started a Memorial Run in memory of his son to raise money for Asthma Awareness. We, at least I, have gotten your point that you do not believe in Flu shots for children. Thats your god-given right. But please give it a friggin rest!!! I'm sick and tired of having your websites pushed in my face. I can only hope that your child is not in the wrong place at the wrong time this winter where he/she might catch the flu. I hope with all my heart that no one has to endure what that family did last winter. Did I mention he was their only child??? I was also at my son's school a week later watching his 1st Grade teacher and every administrator in the district and in his school dressed in their best black going to his funeral-every single one of those women walked out with tears- and that was just leaving the building. His cub scout leaders went to the services too. I did not since I had only met him that one night. I heard from too many people in town...it was a very sad place to be. His parents almost had no services at all. Not sure what changed their minds. So- your life is your own. Keep your postings to speech issues and Apraxia issues. Isn't that what we're here for?? To everyone else here. I'm sorry for my rant. This is NOT the kind of person I am! I've been on this group for almost five years now- since my daughter was diagnosed. I hope to stay. > > http://www.policestateplanning.com/chapter_14_.htm > > > Love, Gabby. :0) > http://stemcellforautism.blogspot.com/ > > " I know of nobody who is purely Autistic or purely neurotypical.
