Hello Families Network! As you may already know, healthcare reform is a

priority for the Obama Administration and many of our federal legislators.

They are currently in the process of putting together a healthcare reform

bill to consider by August. Long-term supports and services (such as

assistance with personal care and activities of daily living) are currently

primarily funded through Medicaid. Including long-term supports and

services in healthcare reform would provide more options for people with

developmental disabilities and their families as well as take some of the

pressure off of states' Medicaid systems. Please contact your Senators and

member of Congress and let them know that in order to have healthcare reform

that addresses the needs of people with developmental disabilities,

long-term supports and services must be included in any proposal. The Arc

of the US has put out an action alert on this issue at

http://capwiz.com/thearc/issues/alert/?alertid=13210551 where you will find

additional information as well as a sample email that you can modify and

send to your federal representatives. As always, please don't hesitate to

contact me if you have any questions or need assistance in navigating the

online action alert.
