My son will be 5yo in August. He was diagnosed with apraxia, motor planning

delay, gobal developemental delay, and fine motor delay at age 3.5yo. We

started him on intensive speech therapy 5x/wk, including a prompted certified

SLP 1hr/wk. He also takes swimming, karate, and music classes. His

speech is improved, now he is comfortable communicating with 2-3words utterance.

And he can repeat a sentence if I model for him. He can correct himself

if I tell him to say the sentences over. Since he is starting kindergarten in

September in a school that is 1.5hr away, this leaves very little time for

therapy. From what I observe during his prompt sessions, she may be touch his

face for 2-3 words/session. My question is when can PROMPT therapy be

discontinued? He will still get ST 3x/wk individually, and 2x/wk group at the

school.

Any BTDT/ thoughts will be appreciated.

I'm interested in this also, I am not in the same boat (my little guy is 3yr 4

mos), and we are on the beginnning of the ladder, prompt therapy began only a

couple of months ago, he is no where near not needing it, but do you just " know "

when it's time to stop the therapy?

Just wondering? Though I can't answer your question , I think I would just

trust my " gut " . Have you been watching the sessions all along? If so, perhaps

you can continue prompt at home. I know that with our therapist, I can watch

through the double sided mirror, I was using some of the prompt methods she was

at home and he seemed to respond. Also, our little guy was prompting himself in

the beginning. He would do this and we would be in awe b/c it was as if he knew

that if he could only get his mouth in the right position, his tongue just so

and then breath, the sound would come out! It worked and we were pleased!
