Guest guest
I am having the same problem... I can't seem to get the appropriate dosage into my son each day and I'm starting to feel like a " juice/fish oil pusher. " My little guy is 2.8 years old today and I am trying to get at least 2 teaspoons of Nordic Naturals fish oil into him each day. (I would really like to get 3 but it doesn't seem possible!) We have tried the Fishies, which I must admit, TASTE REALLY good, but my son gagged when his speech therapist gave him one. (I also tried to give him one cut into small pieces and he looked at it and nodded " no. " ) There are only two ways I have been successful with getting the oil into him... juice and applesauce -- and he isn't always interested in having either! (and this is where I feel like a pusher... Do you want juice? Do you want juice? How about some juice?) Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm fairly sure that my son won't be able to (or even try) the capsules yet. Any creative ideas would be very welcome! Thank you,
Guest guest
I put it onto a medicine syringe (no needle of course) and squirt it into his mouth as I would any other medication. I give him a chaser of juice afterwards. Yes, sometimes he balks. But, options are limited. It is now part of our daily routine. The whole " putting it into food or drink never worked for him. Hope that helps! Noelle Sent from my iPhone On May 10, 2009, at 2:31 PM, DeGironimo <lisad529@...> wrote: > > > I am having the same problem... Guest guest
We used to make a daily smoothie with the fish oil in it, and I had the same concern when he didn't finish it or want it. It's crazy, but I just poke a hole in the fish oil capsule with a toothpick, put it in a tiny medicine cup and cut a piece of a drinking straw and have him drink it out of the straw with his breakfast and vitamin. I never would have thought he would just drink it, but he does! Everytime, I say, omigoodness, that was the fastest you drank that! And he smiles with pride! Good Luck! Guest guest
My son is 3.5 and refused it in any food. So I explained to him why he needed it. Now I just pierce the capsule and squirt it into his mouth. He does have to 'work himself up' to take them, lol, but he will. Now there are times he will refuse, but he will usually come around (I will offer candy to him). Granted he is usually a good medicine taker... I think due to the fact he had severe acid reflux as an infant ... so he knows medicine makes him feel better. Good luck! I know I hate having to bribe with candy, BUT the strides his speech has made does make it worth it. > > I am having the same problem... Guest guest
We use the nordic naturals capsules. I pierce the capsule and squeeze the oil onto a spoon. My son just takes it like medicine. Every once in awhile he says " no fish oil " and we say Yes fish oil and that's the end of it. Although he also loves medicine! Any kind. He asks for it and sometimes will put his hand on his forehead and exclaim that he has a fever! So he can get tylenol ot motrin! He's just three and has been doing that trick for about a year! I never liked the idea of putting it into anything because I was afraid that he wouldn't get enough. But we do give him a chaser of something to drink- usually iced tea. erin
