Guest guest
HI LISA, YES THIS IS RIGHT, THEY WILL NOT ALLOW HER TO BE IN THE SCHOOL AS SHE IS IN PRE-SCHOOL, THEY SAID PRE-SCHOOL IS NOT OBLIGED, ALSO THEY SAID SHE DOESNT HAVE ANY ACADEMIC GOALS. THEY SAID GO SEARCH FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL IF YOU WANT OUR SERVICES IS SPEECH ONLY. For example: Dear Mrs. ___, Thank you very much for taking the time to speak to me today regarding my daughter _____. I'm a bit confused and am requesting in writing for you to clarify what you shared with me verbally so that I may share this with a few professionals who work with my daughter privately as well as others who are assisting me in advocating for my daughter ___. It's my understanding that your district will offer 3 hours direct individual speech therapy through out of district placement. It is also my understanding that you want her schooled in out of district placement. In addition it is my understanding that you are leaving it to my discretion to search for and find appropriate out of district placement for my daughter ___. It is also my understanding that once I find an appropriate out of district placement for my daughter you will no longer provide her with transportation and I will have to provide transpiration. I am happy that you trust my judgment to find appropriate placement for my daughter but wonder why she will no longer be qualified for transportation. Unless I misunderstood can you please explain why she will no longer be entitled to transportation? Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you in the next day or so on this matter. ~~~~~~~~~~~ You want to send this certified mail return receipt requested. I didn't know what you meant by DIS -but you should be specific as to what that means. If you meant direct individual services for DIS specify what type of services. I'm not sure but from what you wrote perhaps it's a good thing. Of course perhaps the way I interpreted your message was wrong -but notice I'm interpreting that they are not only allowing your daughter to be schooled in out of district placement to receive 3 hours a week of individual speech therapy but that you get to choose the placement. If that was the case all you would need to advocate for would be the transportation! If my interpretation was wrong they will have to answer you in writing and explain exactly what they meant...and that's what you want anyway because they won't put information in writing that is against your daughter's Federal rights to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) I can try to reach Cheryl -our awesome VP award winning teacher/SLP advocate regarding this but know that Mondays are the best night for me to speak with her. Also did you share this with Jill from the California group to help you on this too? =====
