Guest guest
Gail: had (and still does have) tongue thrust when eating. He also wouldn't chew his food. Had a couple scary incidents of choking (one in a restaurant in Chicago!) It was because of this we started speech therapy. His OT was doing some oral motor exercises and we also switched the time she came out to coincide w/lunch and she would work with him while feeding him lunch. It helped alot! I have TONS of handouts on massage techniques both internal and external. If you or anybody else would like copies, please e:mail me your snailmail address & I'll send. Judi-Mom to Sam & 33Mos. Guest guest
Helen, who is now 7, still sticks her tongue out when eating certain foods, e.g. sticky things like chocolate or cake, and can sometimes be very messy when eating. I was never shown any exercises to do for her tongue, which sticks out quite a lot of the time. It is slowly improving however, but when she is asleep her tongue still sticks out! What is a NUK brush Margaret? Does anyone know of any useful exercises for tongue control? Sorry this is no help Gail - I still can't get Helen to put her top lip down on the spoon or fork. Guest guest
The profession that treats tongue thrust is called orofacial myology. Here's a link to their organization: _http://www.iaom.com/_ (http://www.iaom.com/) Two of my kids have tongue thrust, and we're using an orofacial myologist with both of them. Hope this helps!
