Although I don't post here often, I have posted a couple times regarding an

upcoming IEP for my bilingual apraxic child who will be enrolled in an immersion

program. I have worried and prepared for what I thought would be a huge battle.

After much research on bilingual speech services, rights, duel languages and

apraxia, and even contacting an advocate (who didn't offer much hope in my

direction due to lack of research)I finally had my son's IEP today. With little

to no reaserch on bilingualism and apraxia, the immersion school's past

regarding IEP's with the second language I held little hope.

It was all for nothing. I got the SLP to sign off saying that he would receive

speech services with 25-50% of the practice time in Spanish. It isn't the ideal

way I would have liked the therapy presented but now that bilingual services are

on the IEP there is precidence for more services in the future. At least this

way is he is working on the /s/ sound then words and phrases will be in English

and Spanish. This should hopefully help with the carry over.

Thanks for listening. I had to share this with a group that would understand the

exitement.
