Guest guest
Hi Everybody! Just a head's up about 2 upcoming awesome events that will probably be of interest.... 1) June 13 & 14 - Aquanfest/Greenfest City, California. This is the Bay Area's only 2009 'paddlefest' human-powered watercraft demo days, and fundraiser for many causes. We expect thousands of people to join us to try out kayaks/surfboards/canoes/dragon boats/scuba gear/you name it. We're also featuring amazing live entertainment (including a fabulous rock and roll band made up of kids with disabilities), and all kinds of awesome stuff to see and do. We are also hosting 2 kayak fundraisers, one for general health-related causes, another for environmental causes. We expect dozens of nonprofit organizations to host (free) info booths and educate the thousands of people who join us. Of special interest to lots of people on my email list, we are running tons of kid-friendly activities thru the day, and all of the activities will be fully accessible to young people with disabilities. I'm one of the handful of 'adaptive kayaking instructors' on the West Coast, so we'll be working with teams of instructors to show people (of all ages) with all abilities & disabilities how to kayak. Absolutely free admission to everything, only $10/person or $25/family to demo every boat in the park. http://www.aquanfest.com Hope you can join us. It'll be a BLAST! 2) Saturday August 8, 2009 - Take Flight for Kids, San Reid Hillview Airport. This our 8th such event will be BY FAR our biggest in the series of Northern California flying events for young people with special needs, at-risk youth, etc. We expect up to 75 pilots to take 1000 young people flying for 20 minute flights over Silicon Valley. Most of the young people get to control the plane for a while, to let them experience the joy of being in full control of a complex piece of flying machinery. We host a massive simultaneous ground festival featuring a couple hundred science/technology/engineering/math nonprofits showing kids (and parents) vocational and educational opportunities that might not have otherwise occurred to them. If you work with young people of any ability, or if you are in the science field, we welcome you to host a (free) booth and strut your stuff to the thousands of people we expect. http://www.takeflightforkids.com So that'll do it for now. We have lots of other fun stuff going on, but more on that later. Have a great May! Hope to see you soon! Cheers Dean McCully Cisco, Aquanfest, Take Flight for Kids, Day in the Sky, etc Love, Gabby. :0) http://stemcellforautism.blogspot.com/ " I know of nobody who is purely Autistic or purely neurotypical.
