Guest guest
from what I've seen and read, canker sores are caused by stress (emotional or physical to the mouth), chemicals in your toothpaste/mouthwash (ie sodium lauryl sulfate), acidic fruits and/or veggies and/or nutritional deficiencies, food allergies and/or an imbalance in acidity/alkalinity mostly. Not the vitamin C, or producing too much acid in one's stomach (though that may set one up for a diseased state). Too little hydrochloric acid can lead to stomach cancer, ulcers, etc. as the lining may become eroded away by the use of acid pump blockers such as Zantac, and mineral deficiencies which may lead to further imbalances. If it's a food, then try to omit it and see if it helps, but if it's simply bacterial, then the CSW or the other remedy that I posted from the book The Herbal Drugstore may help. Steve PS - Though I'm unsure if Triclosan (an anti-basterial agent in some toothpastes and soaps will cause this, I do know that when I tried Colgate Total when an opinion polling agency sent it to me to try as a pre-release marketing " ploy " (for lack of a better word), I had a sloughing off of the lining in my jaws from the inside and had a problem with canker sores, and I rarely have had these. --------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
The colloidial silver water you'd do best by getting it from someone reputable or make it yourself; the herbs you can get through catalogs, local co-ops, some health food stores, etc. and either make your own poultice or tinctures. Guest guest
I don't think toothpaste causes it. I have not been using any toothpaste for a few months now but I still have canker sores. I am having a couple of them now. I have tried rinsing with 3% H2O2 but not very effective. The only thing left for me to do is to sleep by 10pm - the Chinese believe that it is caused by " liver heat " from late nights. Guest guest
I don't know if this will help any but thought I would relate it. I infrequently get canker sores inside my mouth but when I do it happens a week or so before I get sick. After noticing that pattern I now try to get more sleep, vitamin A & D (cod liver oil), vitamin C, & colloidal silver. I do not get colds as often & the canker sore, only last a couple of days. One " old wives tale " that I learned from my grandmother that works for me is to make a salt water mouth wash. I don't measure the salt, I heat the water (baby bath warm) and then add in enough salt to make the water milky white. I do this about 3 times per day or more. It's worked in getting rid of the canker sores faster for all or my family since I was about 4 year old! (I hated doing this when I was young but have gotten used to it over the years.) Good luck. Guest guest
I heard someone say that that treatment with salt water can damage the lining in one's throat. I think they were referring to gargling for a sore throat. There seems to always be a reverse effect in life. For every negative effect there is a positive effect and vice versa. I am still waiting to hear from someone mention about whether the zapper kills friendly microbes. Any change in stool? > Thank you to everyone who have responded to this ...it has been very helpful! > Re: canker sores > > > I don't know if this will help any but thought I would relate it. > > I infrequently get canker sores inside my mouth but when I do it happens a week or so before I get sick. Guest guest
I would use high quality salt - such as Celtic salt or handharvested sea salt (slightly gray and not free-flowing). Our supermarket refined salt can damage the body. The zapper doesn't kill anything in the bowel or intestine. So the microbes there remain. barb -------- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 14:51:48 -0000 From: " guru153 " <guru153@...> Subject: Re: canker sores I heard someone say that that treatment with salt water can damage the lining in one's throat. Guest guest
Thanks for that info Mike! I'll try your suggestion about SLS-free toothpaste. I'll also ask my rheumatologist more about this when I see him in a couple of weeks and let the group know if he says anything of interest. Sharon > >PS. Guest guest
I am from a family that has canker sores, and have had them all my life. I have never had a cold sore though. When I was pregnant 30 years ago and for quite a while afterwards, I had no canker sores. At the time, my dr gave me folic acid to take. He was ahead of his time, as now folic acid is considered vital to pregnant women. AS long as I took viatimins that were fortified with the B vitamins, I didn't seem to get canker sores. Then when I started mtx, I had to take extra folic acid to keep up with canker sores. I am now off MTX and taking Enbrel, but my dr is having me take Foltx, which also is related to cardio health. I will still occasionaly get a canker sore, which I think can sometimes be stress related, but they don't take as long to heal as before. So, even if you are not on MTX, you mmight want to consult with your dr about taking Foltx. Sandy
Guest guest
My daughter used to get them. She also used to have very poor oral hygeine. We in fact, with insurance mind you, paid out about 1,000 out of pocket, last year to have her dental concerns taken care of because the occasional brushing did not help prevent their progression. Since then, she has been more (mature) responsible about brushing her teeth. As a result she rarely gets a canker sore. I think poor oral hygeine and also bathing and such, are pretty common with AS kids. For a long time mine would only take baths, then it developed to showers, and now she showers, brushes her teeth, and even takes care of her own hair, which used to be long past her waist, but this year she had it cut to below shoulder length, to fit in more at school with the other girls. Honestly you people out there with younger AS kids, it does get better. Not sure if its the world adjusting to them, or vice versa, probably a bit of both, but it " does " get better. Listen my daughter is almost 17 and she still refuses to wear bluejeans because of how they feel against her skin!!! And she still wears her socks inside out, because th seam in the toes drives her nuts, and yes we've tried thousands of different kinds of socks lol : )
Guest guest
For canker sores we use hydrogen peroxide (swish a little in mouth) and then apply Vitamin E oil (from capsule) to the sore. We have found this very effective for taking away the pain. In a message dated 12/3/2006 6:58:28 P.M. Guest guest
Beth is he eating the ALA or swallowing it in a capsule? My son experienced mouth irritations because he eats the ala. He is not able to swallow pills yet. We found that it is necessary to be sure he rinses and swallows a bunch of water after he takes his dose. So the ala is not sitting in his teeth irritating his cheeks/gums. > > Yesterday my son showed me 2 nasty canker sores; one inside his upper > lip and another on his lower lip. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I am guessing that after 3 rounds of chelation, the yeast kicks up and causes a bit of constipation. Whenever I get constipated I get canker sores inside my mouth. Takes about a week or so for them to clear up. If this is the case, increase your yeast protocol and make sure you are giving enough Mag & VitC and whatever else you need to do to keep thing moving. Good Luck! But, I know what certain mouth sores look like, and what eliminates them for my family. I couldn't tell you which ones were " cold " and which ones were " canker " tho. For certain sores, especially my #1 gets them on the inside of his cheeks and lips, he needs lysine, selenium, and B vitamins to eliminate them. There are slightly different sores that I get in my mouth, which are caused by foods I eat. I can actually feel the sores start to develop, while I am eating those foods. Then a few hours after I have eaten the foods, the sores start to go away. Dana

Guest guest
Me, and my kids get nasty canker sores- takes about 2 weeks to go away, can't sleep, eat. We got this stuff at the pharmacy called Kanka. You put on a little, it hurts LIKE HECK for a few seconds, then it numbs the sore for a while- what a relief. My 3 yr old just got over a biggie, and she would come and ask for the Kanka- even though it hurt so much to put on, it felt so much better after. Guest guest
Has anyone else's child had repetitive canker sores? My son (4yrs) has had 5 canker sores since Oct. of '08. I asked our dr about it, he just said he'd make a note of it. I know that at least 2 of the canker sores came around the same time as some " virus " . He's got one right now (virus (fever/cough)and canker sore). He says they don't hurt(high pain tolerance), but they look awfully painful! Anyone know of a " cure " for canker sores? Thanks, Bonnie
