Guest guest
Hi, I am very happy that I have found this great support group! Here is our brief story: My son is 20 months old with no words yet - except the word " apple " that he started to say rarely very recently. I contacted EI back in February when my son was around 17 months old and they assigned a special educator. She started about a month ago (since EI assignment procedures take almost two months in NJ) but I felt that we also needed a SLP because special educator alone would not seem to be enough. I took my son to a pediatric neurologist in NY who diagonised him with mild hypotonia and sensory integration dysfunction. She also said my son meets likely criteria for PDD NOS but it's not a diagnosis yet. Doctor recommended that he gets speech & ABA therapies and she sees him again in three months to re-evaluate. Because my son has great eye contact and very social with people around as well as pointing out to pictures in the books, etc., I am not sure if it really could be PDD NOS. I recently started to work with a private SLP (while waiting for EI to come for re-assesments as per pediatric neurologist's recommendation) and she said my son might likely to have apraxia, not PDD NOS. She also recommended The Late Talker which I have just started to read. I have two questions to the group. I will appreciate a lot if you can give me a hand to help...I am very new to the whole concept of apraxia and would like to educate myself as much as possible. - What is the ideal dosage of ProEFA for a 20 month old baby? - If I choose to give him the liquid form, what would be the ideal dosage vs gels? - Do I need to add anything else to it such as Vitamin E? If yes, is there a recommended website? And, what is the ideal dosage of additional supplements (such as Vitamin E) for a 20 month old? - Is there a difference in speech therapy techniques for apraxia vs PDD NOS? - I also heard about GFCF diet. Could someone give me a brief info. about what it really is? I am trying to understand if this is something that I need to consider for my son. Thank you very much for your help, June
