Guest guest
, my heart smiled when I read your message. Thank you for sharing. I don't think this is just coincidence and I'll try to explain why. ALL: The essential fats in PharmaOmega Speak™ are the fats that reside in the membranes of cells – nerve cells, brain cells, etc. EPA does many things, but a primary action is to direct `nerve communication' (simplest way to say it), and without EPA, we have more inflammation (undesirable) and cell function can be compromised (communication is skewed). DHA is part of the structure of these cell membranes, it's a unique essential fat (there is no substitute) and DHA provides the backdrop for other nerve and neuron communication. (It's almost like the structure of your home allows your family to manage daily living within and if the structure is compromised (a leak in the roof) then normal activities are interrupted – does that makes sense?). OK, so these essential fats provide the FOOD for cells to function normally (remember, they are nutritionally essential for all humans, we can't make them in our body). As cells work (metabolize, direct pathways, allow nutrients in/out, get used up) they create `free radicals'; this is a normal byproduct of metabolism (it's the same idea, of when we build/create something, there are waste products that need to be `handled'). This is why we need antioxidants, and you hear about them a lot in the news – vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is the best known antioxidant known to man. Antioxidants PROTECT & PRESERVE cells during normal living. These days we hear about plant based antioxidants (in blackberries, pomegranate, etc) and these are good, too, but not a substitute for vitamin E (the plant ones work differently, they are phytonutrients, not vitamins). D-alpha tocopherol is a vitamin (aka necessary for human living) and it precisely protects cell membranes (it literally `shuttles' free radicals - also called `oxidants' out of the cell – this offers protection and keeps the cells functioning right). What we've learned in nutrition science and neurodevelopment is that when children have an increased need for essential fats, they also have an increased need for anti-oxidant protection. We don't know precisely why children with neurodevelopment issues need more essential fats – we have ideas and research will answer these questions – but what we know to-date is that children with neurodevelopment conditions 1) have an increased need for essential fats 2) supplementation with the right type/ratio helps and 3) their cells need additional antioxidants to manage the natural bi- products. It is the same idea as when you `rev' up a car, you use more fuel and have more exhaust – and you need to deal with that `exhaust' in your body – and that is the role of antioxidants. The other nutrients in PharmaOmega Speak simply support and balance these primary functions. Neurological support and Antioxidant function. Pretty simple and safe. Nutrition Science at work. Research will illuminate why these children have increased needs, but for now, we can nourish them responsibly and love them. Gretchen Vannice, MS, RD I didn't want to make this post too long, but I can add more as to why more EPA, less DHA, at a later date. Other supplements provide essential fats, too. PharmaOmega Speak simply combines and provides the best blend known to-date.
