South Orangetown Middle School Auditorium , Van Wyck Road, Blauvelt, NY( parking in rear lot off Erie Street) Presented by: SEPTA Guest Speaker: Jeanne Marron, Ph.D., Clinical Director Asperger's Related Services West Bergen Mental Healthcare and Center for Children and Youth Ridgewood, Ramsey, Oakland, NJ www.westbergen.org Focus of Presentation: · Overview of Asperger's, Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder & the social deficits involved · Review of teasing and bullying · Why and how children with Asperger's, Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disability & other disorders affecting social communication & social interaction skills are at increased risk for becoming victims of teasing & bullying · The impact targeting has on children & teens on the spectrum · Assisting affected youth who have experienced teasing & bullying · Working with neuro-typical peers to prevent targeting of affected youth · Strategies for increasing awareness of the spectrum & developing sensitivity programming for all youth.
