Guest guest
I know it seems far off but the five months goes fast. I would guess he has a Fall birthday? Here in NY--the option is to get out of EI early and start school in September in a special needs school. Or with the Fall bdays- NY EI will provide services until December. than they can transition in January to preschool. My year my daughter aged out of EI (she's 7 now) she turned 3 in July. I had enough of EI in my house and just wanted them OUT! we had 6-7 therapists a week at that point.with her summer birthday- she was only eligible to stay in EI till August of that summer. She was also very ready for a change and the new challenges with new/different therapist in a special needs preschool. I ended EI in May of that year and gave her a month off! She started ESY in the special needs preschool two weeks before she turned 3! But that is what she needed. She needed and got every service they offered--OT PT ST in school..so she needed the full day and I needed a break! I also have two sons who only required speech in EI. NY will not offer special needs preschool to a 3yr old with only one service. So- my only option was to send them both to typical preschool and bring them after their half-day to speech therapy at a special needs preschool after the schools regular school day was done. They both caught up to their age level after only a 4-6 mos of ST and were discharged. They are now 10 and 4 yrs old. My apraxia daughter is now 7yrs. Those were my options for my 3yr olds who only needed speech. -- In , " BodegaLee " <bodegalee@...> wrote: > > Hi Everyone > well I'd forgotten how quickly the IFSP transitional meeting comes up (6 months prior to the 3rd bday - at least here). While I understand the need for everyone to get things in place so there's an appropriate place/services for the child at age 3, so much can change. My son is not quite 30 months and has been participating in ST since shortly after his 2nd bday. At this point, it's hard to tell where he might be in another 5 months as he's making progress (slow, but sure).
