Guest guest
Hi all. My name is Roz and my oldest son (turning 3 on June 1st) has just been dianosed with apraxia. > We have been receiving early intervention services from LA county for about 6 months (speech therapy twice a week, " group " twice a week). Just a month ago found out that his speech delay is apraxia. About three weeks ago, we started him on a PRO-EPA fish oil supplement (from Nordic Naturals) and then two weeks ago on a second-hand in-home sound therapy program given to us by a friend. > About two weeks ago my son had a twenty-four hour on and off fever followed by a pretty miserable week (no more fever just out-of sorts, I figured his body had fought something off), but then a week after the fever his fingers and toes began peeling. Then a few days after that he developed a bit of a rash/dry skin spots (eczema-looking) on his knees and elbows, and a sandpaper-feel on his chest. The pediatrician said it looks like scarlet fever but my son tested negative on the strep throat culture and never had the characteristic red itchy rashes on neck and back etc. He does have swollen lymph glands. I was worried it might be an allergic reaction to the fish oils so stopped the Pro-EPA a few days ago. However, I am wanting to get him back on again as we have seen more verbal progress in the last week than in the last six months altogether. Has anyone heard of this and could the peeling hands etc be an allergic reaction to the fish oil OR (as I read in a snippet somewhere on the internet) a sign that his body is detoxing due to the fatty acid supplement? > Also, besides the fish oils supplement and sound therapy, is there anything else we can start/try right away that anyone else has seen great results with? > Thank you all so much, from a very concerned mom. Guest guest
Hi Roz! My son also get scarlet fever. He once had the same thing as you are describing but did not test positive for strep. They put him on antibiotics anyway. So it could be that. I can't say anything about allergic reactions to the epa oil as I haven't started that yet. But, probably nothing to worry about! > > Hi all.
