Guest guest
For those of you that are not aware- today is not only Earth Day but the release day of the Disneynature movie Earth which features the narrative voice of the unmistakable Earl . Earl is known for his powerful and beautiful voice...but are all of you aware that Earl is not only a stutterer but a spokesperson for the National Stuttering Foundation? http://www.stutteringhelp.org In fact here's an entire poster you can purchase for your child that features some famous stutterers http://www.stutteringhelp.org/Portals/English/18_famous_people_may2009.pdf Some of you may be thinking " but my child is apraxia " or " my child doesn't stutter " or even " my child has just a simple delay in speech " but the point is that these are people that overcame their speech disability and rose way above anyone else! And also some of you may not be aware that like apraxia -stuttering is another motor planning disorder of speech. I recall years ago some experts from Canada speculated that perhaps apraxia is " the most severe form of stuttering " Here's just two articles on it -many more out there. Recent Developments in Speech Motor Research into Stuttering http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB/produkte.asp?Aktion=ShowFulltext & ArtikelNr=\ 21518 & Ausgabe=225815 & ProduktNr=224177 Stuttering and Sentence Length http://jslhr.asha.org/cgi/content/abstract/19/4/651 The effects of simulated stuttering and prolonged speech on the neural activation patterns of stuttering and nonstuttering adults Posted by Callier Library on October 1, 2008 http://callierlibrary.wordpress.com/2008/10/01/the-effects-of-simulated-stutteri\ ng-and-prolonged-speech-on-the-neural-activation-patterns-of-stuttering-and-nons\ tuttering-adults/ =====
