Guest guest
Hello, I'm reading " The Late Talker " and wanted to see if anyone had any guidance about my son's current IFSP. He was evaluated at 23 months and scored at 15 months for expressive speech. He scored 22-24 months is all other areas. We live in Ohio and they concluded he is eligible for Part-C EI services. This includes his service coordinator coming to our house and an EI specialist up to 4 times a month. He can go to a speech playgroup consisting of one SLP and this counts as one of the 4 times a month visits. So basically, we go to speech playgroup twice a month and his EI person and Service coordinator come out to our house twice a month. I've asked our EI specialist if we could see the SLP one-on-one or if they offer any other services and she said the SLP doesn't do anything but the playgroup and the daycare at the MRDD. Does this sound right? We are seeking another eval with Kaufman on May 12. His private SLP says he has an oral motor disorder, but won't say apraxia because it is overdiagnosed and he is young. I just want to make sure he is getting appropriate services through EI and I am supplementing therapy with one-on-one private therapy twice a week. But after reading the " Getting the help you need " chapter in the book, it made me wonder if he should be getting more through our state. I know for sure if my son has apraxia, which I whole heartedly believe he does (and also sensory integration dysfuncation)that the services we receive through EI alone, would not help his speech output! Thanks for any feedback. The more I reasearch for my son, the more questions I am finding! Thanks, Jodi (Jack 28 months)
