Guest guest
I've had both children evaluated in Hackensack (speech delay and apraxia). With my daughter, I was local (Garfield), but for my son I made a 70 mile trip because I trust them. It's easy to get to (both the building and walking around inside), the people are friendly, and the service is very quick. In both cases, they did an audiological eval before speech. The ladies who did it are very friendly, the test seems like a game, and you're allowed to stay with your child the whole time. The speech test is similar - stay with your child, lots of games. The first time I went, I worked with (laura?) Gitstein. Wonderful. Don't remember the name of the lady who dx'ed my son with apraxia, but she had a few toys that were geared towards it (pre-hierarchal horn, special bubble blowers, etc) and knew how to PROMPT a child, which leads me to believe that they offer appropriate therapy. Both therapists warned me that there's a long waiting list for speech there. They may also use students (supervised) as therapists, so you might want to ask before you sign up. They suggested that unless I wanted to wait, I should sign up and then go elsewhere in the meantime. I'm sure they do other evals as well, but I didn't personally need them. I don't know of anyplace else you could try, except maybe St. Joe's Children's Hospital in Paterson. Good luck!! > > wondering if anyone has experiences to share if they have used this Children's hospital for any evaluations or therapies..developmental evals, OT, PT..etc. > > Does anyone know if they give appropriate speech therapy for apraxia? > > thank you for sharing, > Iveta >

Guest guest
Sorry - I saw this and meant to respond, and then forgot... My daughter (speech delay) was 3 yrs, 2 or 3 mos. My son was " strongly suspected " apraxic at 2 yrs, 4 or 5 mos. I looked up the lady's name, and forgot it again. I'm almost positive it was Dana Rosen, though. My only complaint was she took a long while to send me the report (I think 6 weeks, but she was on vacation). Any more questions, feel free to ask. Sorry for not getting back sooner. > > > > > > wondering if anyone has experiences to share if they have used this Children's hospital for any evaluations or therapies..developm ental evals, OT, PT..etc. > > > > > > Does anyone know if they give appropriate speech therapy for apraxia? > > > > > > thank you for sharing, > > > Iveta > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Iveta, My daughter had a team evaluation at Hackensack and received OT services there. She was 2 years old when she started with the OT, and we thought the therapist was effective. We stopped with therapy there when she entered the preschool disabled program and was able to get OT, PT and speech through the school. My daughter also got private Speech Therapy starting at 18 mos, but not at Hackensack. We used a therapist at Janet Krebs practice in Ridgewood, NJ. They are excellent and you can email me directly if you want more info. - Coleen > > > > > > > > > > wondering if anyone has experiences to share if they have used this Children's hospital for any evaluations or therapies..developm ental evals, OT, PT..etc. > > > > > > > > > > Does anyone know if they give appropriate speech therapy for apraxia? > > > > > > > > > > thank you for sharing, > > > > > Iveta > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Koukla971@... Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Re: [ ] Re: anyone in NJ using Hackensack Children's Hospital? - I am looking for someone to diagnose my 26 month's old apraxia. Did Dana Rosen actually give you diag. codes for apraxia on your son's evaluation at 2 yrs old, 4 months? that is my son's age now and I am trying to get an appt with the hospital. We have been in speech therapy 5x a week at various awful places and nothing has worked. We have been with lauren gitstein at hackensack for little over a month now and I am not happy. She says you cannot diagnose apraxia until age 3 and the usual story that is is VERY rare. well, i know we have it! works with him, even does a few Kaufman cards and won't evaluate him. please help with advice. how do I see Dana for an Evaluation? we finally decided we will do once a week private speech therapy with slp specializing in PROMPT. don't know who- I talked with a dozen and don't know what to do! thank you for any advice to help me!
