Folic acid was very helpful for my #3 for this problem. Dana
Guest guest
sounds like an auditory processing disorder maybe...he may do well with Neuraldevelopmental Therapy (ND)...visit the ICAN website. phil [ ] Word Retrieval I have taken my 5 year old PDD son off all supplements as a trial and a break. I have done this in the past and noticed a lot of regression and hyperactivity. This time, no change. He is doing very well. He converses very well, but when it come to starting a conversation or telling us something, he really has a hard time retrieving the word. It is almost like stuttering but not quite. I have 2 thoughts....he really hasn't been talking that long so he could need practice, or there is a supplement I need to give him. I used to give him high doses of B plus magnesium, should I try this again? I can't remember if this helped, he has always struggled in this area. Any thoughts or experienced would be appreciated. Guest guest
Liz, I started L-carnosine for my son for this issue, 400 mg in the am and 400 mg in the pm. I think it helped tremendously with word retrival and pro-noun shift, but I never noticed an " almost stutter " as you describe. I am guessing the ICAN website is dot com? I'll check that out too. We also do listening therapy, not sure of its benefit but I doubt it hurts. Guest guest
Hello and Happy Mother's Day!! My 3 yr 5 month old Apraxic son (and SPD)has made tremendous progress in the past 6 months - after increasing his fish oil dosage to 2 PROEFAs and 1 PROEPA capules daily. Although his connected speech is very unintelligable at times, he has mastered some consonant word endings, and is currently working on " s " blends... My question is lately, he seems to be having trouble getting words out or forgets what he is going to say. And either says " I forgot " or " Nothing " or " Nevermind. " Sometimes, it will be a word I know he can say, for example, he was telling me something about school - and the last word in his sentence would have been " school " - but it's like he was searching for it, but it would not come out. Also, at a recent IEP meeting, his teacher and SLP said although his spontaneous speech is pretty frequent, they said it was like " pulling teeth " to get him to answer questions. And, he does not answer when put on the spot at school. I was hoping to get any feedback or similiar stories so I could better understand. It's a new phase for us. Thanks!
