Yes we are also looking to develop some care pathways, to make explicit the work of the Health Visitors. I agree these do seem to be the language of colleagues, it annoys me that we have to continually prove our worth!!! I would be interested in sharing any information, if we are all doing the same thing it may be worth focusing on different areas and then pulling what we have.

I too would be interested in 'care pathways' for families as these seem to be the current language of colleagues.

,

I work with the lead paediatrician on several committees and I will speak to him about this and see what we could get together. I too feel that it is important to stay in touch with our medical colleagues - they are still our employers and line managers. Ruth

Not sure if I am over reacting.

I am all for working in partnership with our medical colleagues but I have

never viewed them as employer or line manager .

Has anyone seen or used the e-start programme which is a software package specifically designed for health visiting? I looked at it for our sure start programme and was very impressed with it. I suspect it would also be really useful in identifying and tracking pathways that clients use (or even setting up pathways?).

Sorry I should have clarified that. I meant we are still employed by Health

and should therefore speak their language too. Ruth

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder about Pathways for Exceptional Children's Annual Public

Board of Trustees meeting on March 25th. The flyer with details is

attached. Pathways will be explaining our new programs including the " Magic

of Reading " program. This program is not only for children with

disabilities, but those who are struggling readers. The program is

expanding to include the 2-3 grades in April 2008 and is slated to provide

extra reading support all the way up to the 5th grade by 2009.

Pathways also just received a grant to help subsidize a 4 week summer camp

that will meet 4 days a week in the morning for 3 hours. This camp is

designed to give extra reading, academic, and social help to children that

may be struggling ages 4-10. Again, children without disabilities but are

struggling and need extra help are more than welcome to attend the camp. One

day out of each week will include a field trip that will add experienced

based learning to the camp. We will be hiring high school mentors to assist

the teachers for this camp, as well as providing openings for our other

mentors to help as buddies.

Finally, Pathways just received grants to begin an employment based program

for children with disabilities beginning at the age of 14. We are going to

be looking for 10 high school mentors who would be interested in being

trained and employed as job coaches for these children. The job coach

positions will provide extensive training, wonderful and rewarding

experiences, and pay $8.00/hour.

All of these new programs and opportunities for children with special needs

and mentors will be discussed at this Board Meeting. Everyone is more than

welcome to attend.

Thanks,

Melinda Jennis, President
