Guest guest
I haven't been on here in ages. I have 4 kids, ages 18, 10, 5, and 15 1/2 months (yes, I know...what were we thinking!). I found y'all many years ago because of our now 10 year old son. He has Down Syndrome and had SEVERE verbal apraxia. This list was a Godsend. Auden HAD language early. By his 1st birthday he could say 10 words. Then shortly after his 1st birthday, he lost the words, and within a few weeks he lost his sounds. All he could say was " AAHHH " . He couldn't even say mama anymore, I was " Aaahhh " . So Auden is now doing pretty well. He just has ennunciation and articulation issues. I believe his apraxia was caused by vaccine damage. Roan, our 5 year old gave me a small heart attack when he was little. He had no words at 18 months and a sppech therapist told me it was likely because we were so used to responding to one non- verbal kid, that Roan probably had no real reason to try to talk. The kid WILL NOT SHUT UP now, but he also has articulation issues. Once his speech started coming in, I think it developed pretty normally except for the articulation. He has never been vaccinated. And now there's Lia. She's 15 1/2 months old and only says " MMmmmm? " and so I find myself looking to the Cherub website and your board again. From what I've read (I'm surprised at how much I've forgotten), I'm jumping the gun a little. I'm thinking I should get her evaluated by Auden's former speech therapist who was really good. Lia seems to have normal control over her lips and tongue. She can stick her tongue out and blow on her food. And, whereas Auden HAD language and lost it, she has never said anything but MMmm. I have gotten her to say mama, but she wasn't able to duplicate it later. Should I be worried yet? I'm hoping I'm just paranoid. Thanks~ ~
