Guest guest
Hi there, I am not sure if this is the right group but I am looking for some help/guidance for our baby. My heart is heavy tonight & feeling discouraged. My husband & I have been noticing that the baby has a few things that have been troubling to us. He is almost 20 months old now. Autism has naturally always been in the back of my head because of our 3yr old son Hayden's diagnosis, but I truly do not think that is the issue with Tanner. My gut tells me it is not - & my gut has served me right many times before.... He has excessive drooling (always has - even when not teething- like change his shirt 5 times a day drooling), low tone over entire body - didn't walk until 15 months old & most recently some noticable differences in the way his speech is sounding - such as it sounds different than before - (the way he says certain words). He is verbal but is a very " tight lipped " talker. He does not open his mouth to say various words. He also has a pretty extreme adversion to alot of foods- seems to be soft, mushy types he doesnt like/wont eat/touch. The doctor has suggested he be evaluated by a SLT for oral apraxia (not verbal apraxia) he said it is closely related to verbal apraxia, but includes impairment in non-speech functions, such as blowing, puckering, sucking, or licking lips. He also said verbal and oral apraxia tend to overlap in diagnosis. I am very concerned about this & already have a call into early intervention here but I do not know much about apraxia. THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP - can you please explain it to me a bit better - & if your child has dealt with it what is all entailed & what has worked for your child - Feel free to email me privately if you dont want to clog the lists up. Thanks in advance...
