Guest guest
Good morning, If there are any parents of children in Washington, DC with Apraxic children under the age of 7 I'd like to know what school your child attends and your opinion of the school and services. We've been exploring school options and I'm at my wits end. Thank you in advance, Audra, mom to 5-YO Kellen
Guest guest
Audra.. We're just starting down this path. My son's a bit younger, though (3). He will be attending a half and half pre-school class (6 'typical'/6 'delayed) at Parks Elementary in Woodbridge, VA next year. I've heard good things, but I'm still anxious about it. Please continue to post about your quest for a good school... as my son and others will be right behind yours and can learn from your experiences. > > Good morning, > > If there are any parents of children in Washington, DC with Apraxic > children under the age of 7 I'd like to know what school your child > attends and your opinion of the school and services. Guest guest
Hi and Audra, We are also starting to think about this. Our son is also 3, and I have been looking at programs similar to what you described, . Currently, he attends a private preschool program. We currently live in andria, VA, and there are no such mixed preschool programs through the city, although he does receive speech through Childfine. We are seriously considering moving to Arlington, VA, as they do provide mixed preschool programs. I feel like my son would really benefit being in an integrated program that provides intensive therapy on a daily basis. Audra, Are you familiar with dcurbanmoms? It might be worth posting to their digest (via email) or posting a message on their website (message board). Take care, Tara > > > > Good morning, > > > > If there are any parents of children in Washington, DC with Apraxic > > children under the age of 7 I'd like to know what school your child > > attends and your opinion of the school and services. Guest guest
, I most certainly will. We actually live in DC at present but we are also plan to move during the winter of 2008. My husband and I are having a difficult time finding an adequate school placement for him in the city and we cannot afford most of special private placements. We've lost raffles/lotteries and visited a number of schools but they either lacked an inclusive setting, had little to no IEP savvy or had large class sizes. I'm spinning my wheels and enlisted the help of an advocate. I'll keep you posted. Guest guest
Tara, No I haven't but I will now so thanks! Kellen is currently at Bridges, a special needs, charter, preschool w/a 1:6 ratio, on-site therapists (speech, OT, special Instruction, etc), specialists, before and after care, intervention options, parent classes, resources, etc. I must say they have completely spoiled us and parents of alumni are left scrambling to find something remotely comparable. Good luck to you in your search and thanks again, Audra > > > > > > Good morning, > > > > > > If there are any parents of children in Washington, DC with > Apraxic > > > children under the age of 7 I'd like to know what school your > child > > > attends and your opinion of the school and services.
