Why the supplement SPEAK is not advisable

I have taken the issue some families are having with SPEAK to a trusted

expert on supplementing children with neurological disorders. I

explained what was happening to the kids and sent the formula for SPEAK

and this is the reply that came.

" It's [sPEAK] what I would call a " lopsided " supplement given the high

amount of Vitamin E. Both alpha tocopherol and Vitamin K2 can initiate

signaling of one of the cellular nuclear receptors, called SXR; that

upregulated receptor increases its signaling to the other receptors

(there are 48 total; 6 of them are Vitamin A-dependent, 2 are

thyroid-dependent, one is Vitamin D-dependent, etc.) and the other

receptors will try to respond. To do that, they need their own supplies

of hormone/fat soluble vitamin (depending on the receptor), but only a

few of the receptors got an increased supply (via the supplement) so the

others start " running out " and the signaling, or crosstalk, becomes

highly imbalanced.

This is not a supplement I would recommend -- I don't like " combos "

because they tend to be imbalanced. Single nutrients are advisable so

parents are only adding one item at a time, allowing them to see which

one is causing problems. "

PS I am only quoting what was explained to me. I have also asked what

can be done to help the children recover and I am awaiting the reply. I

made some suggestions last week but I will let you know what else is

suggested.
