Guest guest
" ...In your opinion, is it valuable for children to be with peer models who are speaking without any delays? That is the main factor that would make us choose a different school for next year. Thanks, Jen... " Jen my youngest just turned 5. He has three older siblings ages 11 1/2, 10 1/2, and 8 1/2. He is surrounded by peer models without speech delays! We still have to work on speech therapy at home and privately with his speech therapist I take him to twice a week. My son has apraxia, dysarthria, and hypotonia in his tongue. It took him a year of speech therapy to be able to move his tongue to the side. (Now he can move it down and make it pointy! He still cannot make his tongue go up to the top to lick the side of his mouth for example.) My priority is getting one on one speech therapy for my child. Both " The Late Talker " and my son's private SLP highly recommend one on one therapy versus group therapy. Best wishes on making an educational choice for your child! It's hard I know!
