Guest guest
I personally know a few DAN doctors that are MDs and Pediatricians. They are well respected. They travel around at their own expense educating others about the treatment our kids. These are some of the most compassionate people I know and make very little from their practice of helping children with developmental disorders. One pediatrician I know here in Ontario, orders supplements for her patients and sells them only at cost. My MD DAN recommends supplements but would never PUSH us to buy the ones on his shelf. He will take calls from us and answer questions at no cost to us. He takes our provincial insurance, so we don't pay a dime. If we want to talk about rip offs, lets discuss why in Canada, we only pay $8 for round of amoxicillian and in the US you pay at least 5 times that amount. Why do you pay for so much for prescriptions in the US compared to the rest of the world for the same medications? Why are regular doctors driving luxury vehicles, vacationing around the world, living in gigantic homes? WHY? Because when we are sick, we are all vulnerable and ALL sectors of the medical world take advantage of this. I know doctors educate themselves formally for many years, but there are many tradespersons that have years of knowlege but don't get paid the same. Articles like the one posted are written by those who are ignorant to the big picture. Experience tells us that such articles are written only to protect the profits of mainstream medicine. I am not saying that perhaps a DAN here or there is not out for there to gouge, but that wouldn't be any different from standard medical practice in the US. The DAN protocol is actually being reviewed by the American Pediatric Society so they can implement standard medical tests and treatments for our kids. DAN doctors are PIONEERS in treating development disorders. They have been around for decades and evidence of their work, healthy neruotypical productive adults and children, has finally proven to the standard medical society that development disorders are medical issues that are TREATABLE. Thank goodness for those that have gone " outside the box " . This has what has advanced medicine all these years. There will be those in all professions that will " rippoffs " . Common sense and following your gut instinct will prevent you from becoming a victim of scams. Here is a link to a presentation by an excellent DAN that is a pediatrician here in Ontario Canada. Here you will also find presentations on research by an Ontario UNIVERSITY supporting the work of DAN doctors and peer review studies that have proven the work of DAN doctors. http://www.autismcanada.org/ As a mother of four boys that have been helped and healed by our DAN MD, I urge you to seek out these doctors. Always be sure to ask around before you decide. Most children improve under their care. Some haven't, but that does not prove they are rip offs. There are many children under mainstream care that don't get well and even die under the care of mainstream doctors, but that doesn't discount their work or reputation. When my boys had speech issues, our regular pediatrician had NOTHING to offer, our DAN MD however urged us to use the Omega supplements and read The Late Talker. (We already had read the book and had the protocol started as per our speech therapist. And I must say that she is a registered SLP, not a doctor, but recommended the omega oil intervention.) At the end of the day, use your instincts to guide you. Search everything out on your own first. Talk to other parents. Then find someone who can support you on the journey of treating your child. Everyday, I am more than greatful the miraculous work of DAN doctors that have healed my boys. Nickerson Mom to four wonderful boys
