Guest guest
I agree with 's posting as well as Michele's postings. Maureen, while your child was very lucky with his private slp and school slp working together, the reality is there are MANY, MANY OTHER CHILDREN who have disabilities including apraxia who do not get speech or any of the services they are entitled to., but it is a reality across the nation that any therapist or teacher will ultimately do what the administration and special services director tells them to do even if it means denying the children services in order to keep their jobs. Maureen, while I respect your right as everyone else's post their thoughts, I have to tell you upfront that I hope you also understand that many parents are not as blessed and lucky as you to even have private insurance or medicaid. Do you have any idea what happens to those children? In a message dated 7/3/2009 2:52:35 P.M. Central Daylight Time, writes: _Late talker/speech delay vs. apraxia? Consider yourself fortunate. I wonder if your experience is the exception or the rule though. I always say the only thing worse than no therapy is bad therapy. So I actually requested the therapist not work on articulation if all she was going to do is say the word slowly and have him keep repeating it back to her incorrectly over and over and over. So here he has this HUGE need and it is not being addressed by the school. I see this as a failure, at least in our case. And I am actually a special education teacher ... taught for almost ten years and have a masters in special education ... so I can assure you I am not anti-establishment when it comes to the schools. But I am disappointed by what I have experienced sitting on the other side of the table in my son's case. Guest guest
Nope--and its very interesting that you can attack someone's IQ but I cannot attack a naive statement that SD SLP's are useless and not worth our time. Sounds like someone is terribly misinformed. Moderators: I thought personal attacks would not be tolerated!! Isnt even bringing up IQ because I dont agree with your version of Apraxia treatment a personal attack?????? I give very useful advice that have helped many parents in the four years since my 8dd was diagnosed. While some parent--hmmmmm--suggest off the wall alternatives to therapy that has been proven to work. And suggesting we spend money on private therapy that some parents out there may not have! You have only been doing this a couple years--but act like you're the be all/end all authority on how we should deal with speech therapy and the system--one that you chose to pull your child ou of voluntarily because it was not working. Does NOT mean it wont work for the rest of us!! > > Maureen, Do you attack everyone?
Guest guest
What is UP with (a very small number) of you people???? I check these emails to get information and support and all I've been seeing lately is a pile of angry, adolescent, self serving, arrogant (need more adjectives?) posts. Yes, we're all emotional about our kids situations and how much we do to support them but why can't we respect the experiences and opinions of others? Tamsin (mother of a 5 year old little girl with global dyspraxia and seizure disorder) > > Maureen, Do you attack everyone? (check the posts, as I posed that question before now) I am glad you did not make me out to be a liar on that one also! > There are a few who take things out of text here. I think it is clear who those are. > I think she got it straight from the get go. It is amazing to witness the variety of IQ's on this forum. > I, for one, would appreciate it greatly if you stop aggressively attacking people on this forum. (myself and others) > Last I checked, a forum was for all to post their individual knowledge and ideas. It is much like a bulletin board. The last bulletin board I read was in a grocery store. All the papers posted on the bulletin board were very different and not everyone offered the same service or had a similar posting of sorts. There was much variety, which gave the onlookers much to draw their attention to. Some services I did not need and some seemed intriguing. I even made mental notes of some for future use. I did not see even one posting on that bulletin board that said aomething to the effect of " Don't believe what so-in-so's bulletin says because their so, so wrong. " I " did " , however notice that a few posters looked as if they were trying to cover someone else's post, but it was not obviously an attempt to block the information. My assumption was that there was a limited space on the board. It was apparent on that particular board that everyone was at least courteous enough to still permit the other postings. (Probably because they were offering different posts and we not competing for the same service. Just my guess.) > It is a shame that some people are so blinded (like a horse with blinders on) and fail to see what is happening in the rest of the world around them. > > > forum Definition > > (Plural " fora " or " forums " ) Any discussion group accessible through a dial-in {BBS} (e.g. {GEnie}, {CI$}), a {mailing list}, or a {Usenet} {newsgroup} (see {network, the}). A forum functions much like a {bulletin board}; users submit {postings} for all to read and discussion ensues. Contrast real-time {chat} or point-to-point personal {e-mail}.
