Guest guest
Hello all, I am a bit confused & need some clarification. Our son (21 months old) was diagnosed with dysphagia & laryngeal penetration in the last few weeks. We started Simply thick nectar consistancy & less chocking episodes. Also, the Neuro dr. did a full work up (neuromuscular disorders, metabolic & mito indicators - etc) We have been told after the modified barium swallow & the brain MRI that it appears that he has apraxia of swallowing but not apraxia of speech. I was under the impression that to have apraxia of swallowing you have to have apraxia of sppeech.... Now, on a side note but to give you some background here....my older son (3 almost 4) has an appt. for a further mitochondrial & metabolic work up in Cleveland in August. The nurse there at Cleveland Clinic thinks I should bring the baby too as he is having " atypical " features to a typical diagnosis of dysphagia (atypical features to a typical disease are a halmark of mito disease). His ammonia was slightly elevated but everything else (plasma & urine) seems to be in range...(carnitine etc.) I am jsut confused about the whole apraxia thing & I think you all have told me before - so please dont shoot me for asking again - in my defense I have had alot on my these last few weeks & am feeling more than overwehlmed. thanks in advance for your help. I am on digest- so feel free to email me as I may not get digest for a day or so... mom2twoinaz@... B
