Guest guest
Leigh he's so young still too to know for sure as he's only 2. You can look at it as " suspected apraxia " and appropriate therapies won't hurt and will probably help. Perhaps " lost language " isn't the best way of explaining it -but a child with apraxia (not on EFAs) will be able to say a sound or a word once -but not again. Won't be able to repeat it. So the question is are your child's errors consistent? And if they are is he on fish oils which could explain that -and if not -good chance he's not apraxic. Not every 2 year old that isn't speaking yet is apraxic (thank goodness for the rest that aren't) Don't get me wrong -apraxia is not as bad as I read it to be when Tanner was first diagnosed. He never went through the teasing -was mainstreamed since kindergarten and is very social....but it took lots of therapy and lots of fish oils to get him there. Other than lack of sounds..which may or may not even be a disorder of speech in a two year old...what other signs? =====
Guest guest
Has anyone checked your child's tonsils? > > in different ways is what I'm thinking from my reading? I'm sorry as I've researched but seem to keep getting confused. My son has not " lost " any language but like another member here recently mentioned, he has limited sounds (mostly consonants). His vowels are great : cow is " ow " .. cat is " a " or " at " ... his strongest consonant is " da " or " do " .. even tho when he tries to say " dog " it comes out as " o " or on a good day " og " (very light " g " sound). We just did the EI/ST evals and he qualifies : 2 yrs and only 5 words (yet if you count the words he says consistently and I know.. it's much more, but noone else would know what the words were) altho his stubborness played into things and his receptive skills tested way more poorly than expressive (which I'm almost pos is wrong) cause he " refused " to do stuff. ST not worried either (about receptive). Anyway, just wondering about these limited sounds. Is that something like apraxia? Phonological processing disorder? Realize he's young but > if anyone has any thoughts on this, would love to hear! > > Leigh >
