Guest guest
HI- I am needing encouragement to keep moving along. Our SLP just finished the Preschool Language Scale receptive language portion, we already had the expressive language done at the Children's Hospital and he just turned two and a half. They are saying his receptive language is 5% and his expressive language is 12%. Mostly it seemed he didn't understand a few prepositions and " me " . This part I agree with, but he does understand big and little, but didn't show this on the test. He pointed to " His " and " her " shirt, but then refused to answer the question on the three other pictures. I am feeling so overwhelmed, like they are saying Brady can't talk because he doesn't understand, which for a few of these newly emerging skills (prepositions and pronouns) I agree, but for the most part I feel like he DOES understand a lot. He may be delayed, but it has always seemed to us that his problems were expressive. Prior to this even his SLP didn't think he had a receptive problem. She is wanting to work on receptive and expressive language goal concurrently and I am confused about this. How can I ask him " which one is jumping " while getting him to practice the word " jumping " . Has anyone else had expressive and receptive delay diagnosed, but no understood it? Believed it? Know what to do about it? It just seems that now they are saying something compeletely new and different than everything we have been working on and it seems so overwhelming that I feel paralyzed. Yes, it is true that we have to work really hard to teach him things, but once he does say the word and we know for sure he gets it, he still can't say it. What does this mean? AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH! Feeling like this is more than I can handle right now. Thanks for listening, Penny
