Guest guest
PROMPT is important for articulation but NOT the end all be all if you cannot secure a PROMPT ST. PROMPT guides the child how to move their mouth and jaw to speak. It does make a huge differnce for us! [ ] Speech Therapy ??? When I took my son to the DAN doctor the other day, she said that he doesn't need a PROMPT trained speech therapist because that is only for child who aren't speaking at all. Is that correct? I thought a PROMPT trained SLP is what is recommended for children with apraxia. (My little guy is 9.5 years old and started speaking in sentences this past May or June). Guest guest
Thanks Colleen! I also wanted to thank you for the other email that you sent me (it may have been private I can't remember). I appreciate all the help that I get on this site and would love any help that you have to offer. I have been reading almost all of them and have learned so much! I had a 4 hour long phone calle (almost until 2 am) with a friend whose child has some symptoms of ADHD, but not all symptoms and I was even able to tell her a lot of the stuff that I've learned about from this site. She was given hope -as traditional means haven't done anything for her and she doesn't want to just medicate her son. We talked in depth about allergies (a recent topic on this site), so that was exciting to be able to share what little knowledge that I have gained with her. You " old timers " (ie: more experienced) moms are AWESOME!!!!!! thanks! Blessings to You, ********************************************************************************\ *********************************************************************** Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 14:27 ________________________________ From: Colleen Somerville <colleen.somerville@...> Sent: Friday, November 21, 2008 5:44:45 PM Subject: RE: [ ] Speech Therapy ??? Guest guest
Does anyone have a phone number for the institute with the PROMPT certified SLPs? I tried the route on the website of entering 5 zipcodes for references in my area, but no one wrote me back! Guest guest
Hmmm...something strange going on. It was well over a month ago, so I doubt I will hear anything at this point. Any suggestions on how I can find either a certified or trained one in Oregon? Guest guest
When my son started prompt, he was making 2-3 sounds. I don't know what you consider not speaking at all, but he was not silent. The SLP had to teach him to make most of his sounds, and he's still a work in progress. I'm not sure what to say for your son, but if he doesn't know how to form his mouth to make those sounds, a PROMPT therapist is a good idea. If he can string sounds together, I don't know if it's the best route to take. > > When I took my son to the DAN doctor the other day, she said that he > doesn't need a PROMPT trained speech therapist because that is only > for child who aren't speaking at all. Guest guest
I hope you find one..I know for us its not easy either. I think you can maybe consider mentioning the program to your SLP and they can get it and study it....I dunno.we are dealing with the same thing here but our SLP is NOW seeing that my son needs something more than the standard therapy...so who knows, your SLP may be open to it or another program. just a thought....and hope you find someone knowledgable in the field krissy > > > > > > When I took my son to the DAN doctor the other day, she said that > he > > > doesn't need a PROMPT trained speech therapist because that is > only > > > for child who aren't speaking at all.
