Guest guest
Well, here is what I am learning: http://www.drugs.com/pro/macrobid.html Because of the possibility of hemolytic anemia <#> due to immature erythrocyte enzyme systems (glutathione instability), the drug is contraindicated in pregnant patients at term (38-42 weeks gestation), during labor and delivery, or when the onset of labor is imminent. For the same reason, the drug is contraindicated in neonates under one month of age. Liz wrote: Here is a write up on the drug I took: " Nitrofurantoin may interact with many other medicines. For example, taking nitrofurantoin with certain drugs that include methyldopa (Aldomet), sulfonamides (sulfa drugs), vitamin K, and diabetes medicines taken by mouth may increase the chance of side effects that affect the blood. General side effects are more likely in people who take nitrofurantoin with the gout drugs probenecid (Benemid) or sulfinpyrazone (Anturane). And the risk of side effects that involve the nervous system is higher in people who take nitrofurantoin with various drugs including lithium (Lithane), disulfiram (Antabuse), other anti-infectives, and the cancer drugs cisplatin (Platinol) and vincristine (Oncovin). Patients who have had a DPT (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) vaccine within the last 30 days or who have one after taking nitrofurantoin are also more likely to have side effects that affect the nervous system. Because of the many possible interactions, anyone taking nitrofurantoin should be sure to check with a physician before combining it with any other medicine. " Gee, wonder how smart it was to give my son a vitamin K shot minutes after being born when I took my last dose of this crap two hours before? Also, that DTAP shot a week later probably not a help. > > hi liz, > > i was given generic macrobid while pregnant with tommy. tommy is now 29 > months and they are telling me he has apraxia. > > christy mattey >
