Guest guest
Hi all. My name is Deb and this is my first post, although I have been lurking for quite some time. I am mom of 4 amazing kids and also a SLP. My 2-year-old has been exhibiting signs of Apraxia of Speech since she was 9-12 months old. She has been receiving private therapy since 18 months and in the last few months, her SLP feels comfortable enough to agree with me that she is Apraxic (most people don't like to diagnose too early). I wanted to begin supplementation with Omegas and I also felt it was important to keep her SLP in the loop. After discussing things with our pediatrician and her SLP and having her give my daughter the Kaufman Speech Praxis Test, we began one capsule of NN 3-6-9 per day. Three weeks later, we have seen progress. Both her SLP and I have observed the following: increase in speech attempts, increase in attempts at imitating modeled speech, spontaneous two word phrases, increase in inclusion of final consonants in CVC words, increase in accuracy of CV and VC productions. I am going to give her another month or two and ask her to readminister the Kaufman. The therapist in me wants to see the progress in black and white. Her SLP told me the other day that she used to take fish oil supplements herself and since seeing my daughter's progress, she has started taking her supplements again. It seems we have created a believer in the effects of Omegas. After the amount of time I have spent working with my daughter at home and the hours of private therapy, it is so exciting to see that the supplements are a great addition to all our efforts. Guest guest
I would like to add that this is the oil we use also with success. My son also gets a rotation of Green Pastures (x-factors and their CLO). I also add mixed Es (I think all 8 of them are there). Twice a week I even give him coconut oil into his rice milk. I am doing a trial of carnitine to see if even better things will happen- so far so good! We are seeing the " soft signs " that come with apraxia slowly fade away. It is wonderful. His sensory issues are ironing out beautifully. His physical capabilities are improving. He is trying new things on his own. I don't push him and neither do any of his therapists. He is becoming braver. His receptive language has skyrocketed! We just had our very first speech therapy this week- so I hope he will catch on there as well..... Just wanted to add that I know not all combinations of oils work for all- but experimenting to find what DOES work is critical!
