Guest guest
COACH JIM'S MID-SEASON REPORT Dear Dream Team Players, Buddies, and Families: I felt it would be a good idea as we approach the midpoint of our 2009 season to share with you some of my thoughts on how Season 4 is going. I clearly think that this has been our most successful year since we started our program. Two weeks ago we had 30 players and 30 buddies participating on the same night. It was by far the most heavily attended Field of Dreams event that we have ever had. I am thrilled by all of the new players that we add each year and the return of our core players from previous seasons. It truly warms my heart to see all these beautiful smiling faces round the bases as I continue in my quest to finally record my first out. Similarly, I think it is absolutely incredible how many buddies are coming out each Friday night in order to make this such a successful program. As I remind everyone at the end of each game, we would not be able to host these Friday night games without the generous commitment of this wonderful group of young men and women. I encourage all of the parents of the players and other adults who attend the games to remind our buddies how much we all appreciate their time, effort, and commitment. The buddies should be proud of themselves for what they are doing. We are all truly blessed to have you in our community. I would also like to give a " shout out " to all of the adult volunteers who participate in our program. Again, we would not be able to do this without all of you. Most of you who are participating do not have children who are players yet you come out week after week to help Deb at the registration table and help me with overseeing the field and maintaining a safe playing environment. You all are really a special group of people. Additionally I would like to give special recognition to our musician Mr. Gerard Heldman. Mr. Heldman heard about our program through a mutual friend of ours and called me with his idea that he would come out each week and provide musical entertainment for the kids. He does an awesome job and is one heck of a nice guy to volunteer his time for our kids. Finally I would also like to thank my wife for all that she does " behind the scenes " to make our program so successful. Deb spends many hours each week preparing for our games so that things can run as smoothly and organized as possible. Her goal for each Friday before game time is to have compiled a list of all the players and buddies who will be attending that evening matched up with the appropriate " partner(s) " which includes matching up any special requests she has received. This task has obviously become a bigger challenge as the program has grown over the last 4 years. However, what makes it very difficult for Deb is when she does not know in advance which players and buddies will or will not be attending that evening. While it is absolutely our goal to accomplish the perfect fit for every child each week, as well as fulfill everyone's special requests, it is virtually impossible to do so if we do not know in advance which players or buddies will be attending. I hope you all can understand how difficult it can be for Deb to accommodate everyone's requests if she does not know in advance who will be participating. So I am asking that you please always RSVP to Deb via email by Friday before noon whether you will or will not be attending as well as indicating any special requests you may have. I know this e-mail is getting a bit long so I'll wrap it up by again thanking all the volunteers for all you do to make this program so awesome. Also, please know we are always open to any suggestions you may have on how to make the program even more successful. I look forward to seeing all of you on Friday nights throughout the rest of the summer. One last note. I contacted the Guinness Book of World Records and was informed that the longest amount of time a coach has ever gone without recording an out is 3 years, so if I don't get an out over the next 2 months, I'm going to set a new world record and I'm not going to be very happy about it! See you all on Friday nights! Sincerely, Coach Jim " Play Ball! "
