yes-- 3-6 mos is the typical wait

for a Ped Neuro-- I was calling back in April, and they were already

booking in March of 2010 !!!!

The longer the wait-- the better the Dr usually is-- from what we've seen

personally

Not once you're in their office--but for an appointment to see them!

We saw my 8dd genetics dr last week. Because of some testing that was done

before our visit- he's sending us for bloodwork for a very rare syndrome.

The

group for this syndrome has 13 members--if thats an indication. He's

also

suggesting I take her to a Developmental Pediatrician. Thats one doctor we

have

not needed- yet!

Most parents in my area say they wait 3-6 mos to see the good Dev Ped. Is

it

like that for everyone?

I called one and they wanted to give me an appt for November!! I'm

thinking I

may have to take it!

No, it's not like that for everyone. That's pretty good! There was no Dev

Ped where we used to live, not even if we traveled. I went 80 miles for

pediatric neurologists and the wait was 6-12 months. For a ped

neuro-psychologist the wait was 12+ months. For an autism eval at the

specialist center the wait could be up to two years!

I'd take the Nov appointment. Also I'd suggest asking if they have a

cancelation list. That's how we got in quicker with the ped neuropsych.

I have been waiting to have my son evaluated by a Dev Ped and have been told it

might not be until September. My son was referred to a Ped Neurologist and to

my surprise I got an appointment for July 21st. I am just not sure what I

should ask when we go to the appointment. My son is 3 yrs and 4 months. He went

thru ECI up until he was three and then went thru our local school district.

Just recently, the SLP there told me she suspects apraxia and that is when my

life was turned upside down. Prior to hearing that he may have apraxia, I just

assumed that he is like his father in that he too, had speech problems and

received therapy thru fourth grade. My husband speaks fine now. So now we are

going to see this neurologist and I am so grateful to be seen so soon but I want

to make sure we make the most of this appointment and not sure what we should be

asking. Any suggestions?

-For our first appointment with a developmental pediatrician, the wait was 6

months. After you are an established patient, they usually can get you in much

quicker (about a month).

It is SO hard to wait!

Good Luck!
