Guest guest
You could try this GFCF group: GFCFKids/ I should warn you that this is a huge and very active group, so I subscribe in digest format in order not to get buried by it in my inbox. They have a website www.gfcfdiet.com and many of the parents there share recipes and discuss ingredients. As far as books, I like the Gluten Free Diet for Dummies book a lot. I also think that this is an excellent place to start: http://www.talkaboutcuringautism.org/gfcf-diet/index.htm It can seem overwhelming at first, but if you focus on what you can still eat (meat, fruit, veggies) then all you have to focus on is gluten free carbs like bread and pasta. Though it is true that gluten is hidden in many processed foods (even hot dogs) so you have to start being an expert label reader, or just make a commitment to buying certain brands even though they cost a fortune. We buy organic meat and all natural lunch meat to avoid it (as well as nitrites/nitrates) and it's not cheap, but we feel like it's totally worthwhile in the long run. Many folks recommend Hemp milk for its nutritive value (but I mix it 50/50 with rice milk because it's expensive!) and if you like coconut you can sub coconut milk in baking. I use Hemp milk when I bake because it's a little richer and creamier than rice milk. Almond milk is also great but my son has an allergy to it so we don¹t use it personally. If you email me offlist I can give you a shopping list of what to buy at stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
