Country;Japan Language;Japanese Abstract;The lowering of Ach amount in the brain by the aging is estimated as a cause of learning memory lowering. Though Ach in the brain is synthesized from acetyl CoA and choline, choline must be depended on dietary intake. It is necessary to take in choline as the phospholipid for efficient intake of choline. Phosphatidylcholine (PC), a phospholipid as a supply source of choline, is included in the egg yolk at a high content. In this paper, the effect on cerebral function by combined use of egg yolk PC and vitamin B12 is examined. It was indicated that the combined use of egg yolk PC and VB12 promotes recovery from learning memory disorder through the brain cholinergic system, when the effect on brain Ach concentration and learning memory was examined in the fore-brain nucleus basalis damage rat. Also, in an aging-promoted mouse, hippocampus PKC activity and ratio of DHA in the phosphatidylethanolamine of the cerebrum increased by the combined use of egg yolk PC and VB12, and the possibility of useful effect on hippocampus PKC activity lowering by the aging and fatty acid composition of the brain was indicated. In addition, the combined use of egg yolk PC and VB12 improved the cognition disorder of Alzheimer disease also in the clinic, and the usefulness for psychic function injury of senile dementia was indicated. From the above, it was considered that since the combined use of egg yolk PC and VB12 shows improving effect on cerebral function failure, it is a functional material suitable for the maintenance of the health of the brain.
